    Good Morning!
I have a 2017 DCSB Off-Road and have a Hiker Trailer 5x8 Off Road Deluxe teardrop trailer scheduled for completion in October. I'm guessing the trailer will weigh around 1200-1500 pounds. I have never used a brake controller before. I know the Tekonsha P3 is very popular, but was wondering if a unit like the Reese Brake-Evn would serve my purposes. The Reese unit is a proportional controller and seems to have a simpler display and seems simple to use.

Would I be missing any features that the P3 offers? I appreciate any suggestions from those of you with towing experience!

I don't have experience with the Reese unit but I have the p3 and it's great. Very easy to navigate and set up. Can change brake boost for a heavier load. Never had an issue and I've had it for about 2 years.

Can't speak to the Reese controller, seems like a good unit at a decent price point. We tow a 3k trailer & use the Tekonsha P3, zero complaints with it. Easy to install with the ESP Trucks mounting faceplate, and pretty simple to use. Either way you go enjoy the trailer!!

Pretty cool looking trailer. Is that for camping or hauling toys? Or both?

Just a little space to sleep and a small galley in the back. One step up from tent camping!

The Draw-Tite Activator IV uses time activation. The Reese is proportional. I don't think that would be an issue pulling 1500lbs.

Unfortunately 15 and older trucks don't have that option.
