New volunteer FF here at a small rural FD in South Carolina. I've only gone through support class, Recruit training isn't until September. In the meantime, I'm attending meetings and signing off my support tasks.

I am a veteran, and the biggest thing I miss about the military is the comradery. I also really want to serve my community directly and this is probably the best way.

I think I'm in there. Is it the SC roll call and the other SC BS thread or is there a first responder specific one?

The SC BS and gossip thread is where all the SC folks hang out. There isn't a first responder specific to SC

Ah... guess I wasn't paying attention

Don't know why you would put lights on your POV if you worked for a paid / professional dept?

I missed that post. But I run with a combo department, every one of our paid guys are volly's at their home departments and all have lights on their POV's.

Fairly certain 2 of them are also Chief officers as well.

Only with volunteer FD's here. All EMS is paid. I've never had lights on my POV.

Same here. I don't understand the lights on pov thing. Sometimes I don't even turn the lights on on the big fire truck for bs calls. Pushing people through intersections is dangerous

Agree. We've found even running emergency to the hospital only saves maybe 2-3 minutes on 25 mile trips. Not worth the bs it causes. Takes longer to get through when everyone scatters and has no fucking clue what to do.

Mostly miscellaneous electronic mods.... -2 spare Electrical fuse blocks hard wired to the battery with a key on relay. -Hard Wired Radar detector over rearview mirror. -2 Dual Whelen Avenger blue LED emergency lights, one on each side of the rearview mirror. -EP911 Blue LED Light Bar & Traffic Advisor, Rear Windows. -4 corner amber strobes in stock lights. -Hardwired RF Scanner with external speaker under center console. -Huskyliner front splash guards -Fireband 2 way radio in center console. -Herculiner painted on hitch and skid plate. -Switch to power one 12v socket when truck is off. -AntiDark LED strip under hood with switch. -Timbren Rubber Springs - Rear -MBRP Offroad Cat-Back with Resonator -Duratrac's -Provisor -Color matched hood bug shield

State of CT has a lot of volunteers running lights/calls in POV's. My town has no staffed stations so when there's a call everyone is either responding to station to get equipment or direct to scene to start first responder efforts and give a size up. I have two blue led packs in front and a blue arrow bar in the back window. More useful for directing traffic than getting anyone to move over.

    Hate when that happens.
I'm on the EMS side though. But when you're at a house for tooth pain and you hear a call about a cardiac arrest or rollover with ejection and the next closest truck is literally 10-12 minutes out, it makes me angry.
