Hey guys, just got a 2014 Tacoma DCSB and I'm looking for a tonneau cover. I've read a bunch of posts on here about tonneau coverS and learned that there are different types of covers.

I'm mainly interested in the tri-fold covers that are hard shelled such as the BakFlip G2. I just like it being super sleek and not above the truck bed if that makes sense. I was wondering if there's any other brands/models to check out that's the same way as the G2?

You should have mentioned oil or floor mats in your heading to get a reply. The responses to those topics are many, but worthless as they are all based on anecdotal evidence which is what you will get for this topic. My advice: buy what you like and can afford.

I've got a Fold-A-Cover Elite G4. I was happy with it at first, but it hasn't held up very well after 5 years. For a really expensive cover, I expected it to last longer. I wouldn't recommend it.

Because sometimes you don't want tools and shit to get wet or have people with sticky fingers see what you have in the back.

What do you mean? If I put a tonneau on, it is now a SUV? I'm lost.
If I fold it back and open it ...poof! I can call it a truck again?

Bakflip g2 is good. Their customer service sucks but their product is good.

I'd also check out the Bakflip mx4, undercover flex and ultra flex.

That looks nice! I want one on mine, but here's my worry... my XM antenna is under the plastic bed rail cap, and I'm concerned putting another layer on top would diminish the signal. :notsure:

Hmm can you move your antenna ? I'm not sure if that would affect that

I'd sure hate to. I spent hours installing that thing, trying to figure out a way to get the wire through the firewall, but it seemed like a total PITA. I ended up putting the antenna under the bed cap, then running the wire along the frame and through a grommet under the carpet.

Is there metal framing under there, or is is just rigid plastic? If it's just plastic it probably wouldn't be a problem.

Hard covers are definitely the way to go, metal framing is best. Personally, I'm always frightened the ghetto ass hooligans where I live are going to slash my soft cover and steal my crap. I don't even have a locking tailgate, but they'd probably still steal it because they aren't very intelligent.

Going back to my previous point, if you haven't installed a locking tailgate then there's no point. If somebody wants to steal your stuff, you may as well make them work for it.

To me, if I can't stick my hand in the bed or put what ever I want in it without having to undo a cover it defeats the purpose of a truck.

The rear panel is very flimsy and has a pronounced bow in the middle. There's not enough support built into it to keep it from flexing badly. Also the rubber hinge seals deteriorated, which allows water to get in the bed and into the inside of the panels.
