Every so often my truck cuts out while driving at highway speeds and around town. When I'm accelerating it cuts out the truck does not respond for a few seconds. It feels like I'm not pressing the gas peddle when this happens. You can give give it more gas but it doesn't do anything. Eventually it gets back to running normally. The engine light has not come on so there are no codes. The fuel filter has not been replaced but the mechanic that replaced my radiator last week checked it out and thought it was fine. This is my only form of transportation and I need to have it running as good and reliable as possible. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    2004 3.4 Auto 210k miles.
Plugs & wires changes in the last 10k miles.
    Cleaned the negative battery terminals

It ended being a defective MAF

Do you have a scanner and does it have logging capabilities?

Not sure. These ones have been in the truck for at least 5 years. Bigger than the stock ones. Only way to know is to take it out & have it tested.

If you have a long screw driver just hold the metal to the top of the injector while the engine is running. With your ear pressed against the end of the handle you should be able to hear the fast steady pinging of a normal injector.

Was thinking coils, but damn all of them going out at once is coincidence. Check your grounds.

I'll check the injectors. I've been searching and thought maybe it's the MAF? I went & bought some cleaner today. Anyone have this issue and ended being your MAF going out?

I would imagine your MAF would have to be absolutely filthy to make your engine shut off like that.

Have been having same problem. I believe it to be Throttle Body and/or TPS is bad (03 V6 Pre Runner). Going to get a scanner as I do get check engine light. Cleaned MAF and throttle body, added Lucas injector cleaner. no real difference

Happened in my old '99 Tacoma when the K&N oiled filter i had messed it up, it would stall out on me especially at stop lights. It threw a CEL though. Might be worth cleaning it with MAF cleaner and see if it helps. Its cheap and easy to do anyway

To clarify the truck does not completely shut off. It still runs but no acceleration. I cleaned out my MAF but no difference at all. I have heard it may be the TPS. I'm glad to hear there are others that have experienced this. Now we need to figure out the exact problem & solution.

If you can get a $25 blue tooth scanner from Amazon you can log the data to a website. Then check to see if the tps is going wacko when you have this problem.

The OBDII system is sophisticated enough to store "pending" codes. All that means is that there is/are a certain number of say misfires allowed before the hard code is set and the CEL is turned on.

Ive got a POS android (with a cracked screen) and no storage left for an app. Is the 40.00 scan tool a waste, or will it at least be good enough to pull codes and reset lfault codes? Thanks in advance

I have the FoSeal one too and it makes my ABS light flash like crazy if I plug it in before starting up the truck, does that happen to yours as well?

If I start the truck then plug it in, no ABS flashing. The reader works either way it's just annoying if I forget to take it off when I turn off my truck and start it up again later. Works well with the Torque App on my Android phone, other than draining the battery something fierce
