Just wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue. Everything was good the day before and all of a sudden had this really bad rattling noise coming from the blower fan when I was on any speed but low. I pulled the cabin filter and could see a huge crack down the center of the fan.IMG_0248.jpg

There has been a few threads on this. Seems like it's happening more often.

Do you need to know, or care?
Yes, a few guys on here. Did you find anything in there that could have caused damage?

Yes, I've seen several postings of blower cage failures. Someone may start a new thread soon to check blower cage for imminent failure.
I checked mine already due to paranoia hitting me, but mine seems ok & gtg.

It's easy nuff to replace though just 3 5.5mm fasteners underneath glove box, undue connections & replace $2 oem Chinese part with $40 aftermarket part.
Or alternatively, get a mini hose clamp and attach around shaft while part comes in from stealer to fix under warranty.

    Easy peaches, major pita!
    Cheers!

No signs of anything damaging the fan. Maybe there was a bad batch of fans with brittle plastic. I only have 18k miles on my truck which means i'm still under the factory warranty but seems way to soon for something like this to be an issue.

What a weird thing to just spontaneously break.
It's not like there's any stress on it part for it to break like that.
The other day, one of the tabs that held my over head map lights/switches/console broke in one corner just like that for no particular reason and it's now hanging loose held by 3 sides instead of 4.
Couple of weeks before that I heard a rattle when i go over bumps from the driverside side panel the seat belt is attached to, and when I pulled it apart, I saw a tab on the floor that was part the panel.
I'm getting really sick of these kindof things happening. Fucking Toyota and their tabs.

I think this spans other Toyota models as well. My buddy had good replaced on his Camry.

Looks like the fan was pressed too far down on the motor shaft causing it to crack the fan hub. Sad to say but my company makes these. :( if I had any replacements here in the states I would send you one.

Mine just broke at 37k miles (2016). I’m handy enough to replace it myself, but I’m having trouble figuring out the aftermarket replacement part online.

Anyone have a link? (Or a part number or keyword phrase to search for?)

Someone suggested not leaving the fan on high when you turn the truck off so it doesn’t automatically spin up to high when you turn it on again.

No clue if this really helps or not but i do it now just in case

This. I cranked the truck while the fan was left on high, and it apparently cracked and broke because of it. Follow this suggestion.

Is there any special warranty covering this part, or would the warranty expire after ToyotaCare expires?

my 16 had this problem at 4k miles, then my 17 had it at 200 miles.... after replacing the fan on the 17, I have a slight clicking on low sometimes when I first start the truck up, but goes away on anything higher than the lowest setting. I will mention it when I take it in for the next service, but knowing my luck it probably wont make any noise while I'm at the stealership.

I have the same problem as the OP. I accidentely left it on high and the next day went out and started my truck and then it started making the rattling noise, kinda sounded like there was something in the fan.

    Anyway, I won't let the stealer-ship touch my truck but went up there to get the part number and a price;

The Toyota part number is 87103-04050
Price at dealer was $150.77 (there are cheaper places online cheapest I found was right at $100)

Anyway, hope this info might be useful to others.

    Thanks.

Mine broke at 16000 miles pulled the AC motor and cleaned the fan up used some thick hobby grade super glue and a couple of zip ties and more super glue problem solved dealer was a real asshole said since I messed with it they couldn't do anything for me.The fan is really thin plastic and they don't sell it separate. 150 bucks for the whole thing. So far so good on my patch job.

17 Taco 4x4, blower wheel cracked at start up, buzzed like heck. Zip ties and superglue until aftermarket wheel arrives ($40 shipped). 39K on the truck. Dealer says 9 month wait on the part. I live in southern Arizona, it's 111 degrees today..
