A performance shop brought a mobile dyno to the Carlisle Truck Nationals, and for $100 anybody could get three runs. Upon being told that they would put my Tacoma on the dyno, I ran all the way across the showfield to my truck and then managed to make it back through intense crowds in about 10-15 minutes. The 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins before me put down almost 1,100 horsepower at the rear wheels. I knew my stock 4-banger/slushbox Tacoma would be nowhere near that.

As everybody knows, a stock 2.7L in a 2nd gen makes 159 horsepower at the block. I was expecting a 25% static loss, which according to one of the guys running the dyno would have put me around 110-120 horsepower at the rear wheels. Imagine my surprise when my Tacoma (at the time almost 8 years old and with over 75K on the odometer) ended up putting out 132 horsepower at the rear wheels!



I got some video too, and I have a bunch of other photos from my weekend at Carlisle that I will be posting tomorrow!

By the way, I won third place in my class!

Thanks! Couldn't help but notice your location. How far are you from Whidbey? My dad was in the Navy from 1982-2007 and stationed at NAS Whidbey from 2000 until 2002.

Salty's 11-year old tri-colored Collie, Scooter! Salty brought Scooter with him to the Truck Nationals this past weekend. Scooter is a certified therapy dog! My mom volunteers at the local hospital and says that therapy dogs and their owners are true heroes!

This is what a weekend road trip in a regular cab pickup truck looks like...


Didn't technically need gas, but I had to use the bathroom about halfway and stopped to do, and topped off just for the heck of it...


I was at almost three quarters of a tank, so this fill-up did not cost much...





And this photo was taken moments after I happened to look for something in the center console and realized that the little rubber insert thingy was missing (My friend detailed the Tacoma 2 days before the trip and neither of us know where the hell it went)...

In NY inspections are performed in very similar way. I mean, by independent mechanics, pass or fail $37 safety/emissions (NY Metro area, older cars).
You don't have to fix your car at the inspecting mechanic shop, but still have to pay twice.

On the last day of the show, they gathered all of the award winners in a designated area prior to the parade. The guy who owned this white Ford F250 was impressed with my "professional" camera and asked me to take pictures of his truck with his kids in the back. I do not remember his name, but he was absolutely thrilled at the prospect of seeing his children on Tacoma World. I ended up behind this guy in the "Award Parade" and his kids accepted the award and held it up for the event photographer.

HOLY SHIT!



Or, I should say, Holey shit...
No, literally...

It's a pile of poop with a hole in it! Or least a turd-shaped inner tube...

I was taking pictures of a nearby truck and the guy in the neon yellow shirt started begging me to take a picture of him and his "holey shit."

I made a reference to "Mr. Hanky the Christmas Poo" from South Park and got everybody under that tent laughing!

The guy also wanted me to post the pics on social media, so I guess he got his wish!

All you need to know is that beer was flowing quite freely before I showed up!

 

And of course I took pictures of the all the Tacomas I saw!
