2017 2.7 manual 4x4 thoughts?

    How are these on power compared to the second gen? I know they upped the axle ratio from 4.1 to 3.9, and wondering how much of a difference (bad) it made. I felt the second gen manual for a 2.7, was pretty good power wise. (compared to my 4 speed)

    Im looking at a '17 right now, thats why I ask. Also, I havent had a chance to get out and test drive it yet either due to work.

    In my opinion,
    My 2017 2.7 manual 4x4 is a blast to drive. great on gas, not mention looks awesome, my little urban grocery get'r that like's to play at the farm.

    Why not choose the 6 speed auto? It gets better fuel economy and you don't have to shift it.

    your truck is exactly what I want. Im looking at that exact one right now, minus the wheels, which I currently have. (and will be putting on the new one.)

    I have always just like a manual a bit more. I have had 4 trucks, 2 manuals/2 autos. The manuals were more fun.

    I do see a benefit in the manual trans in that you have full control of when the shift occurs. My reason for choosing the auto was for stop and go traffic. It's good to see the 16+ trucks have a considerably lighter clutch pedal.

    I have a 2004 RC 4X4 SR5 with the 2.7 and it has 3.90 rear gears. I'd be far happier with 4.10's or even 4.56's but it is what it is. Every post I've read talks about 4.10's in the 1st gens but I checked mine out and it has 3.90's. They are just a touch too high for everyday driving. Nice when taking a trip at 80mph. 4.10's would be better while still allowing the once a year long distance highway trips. With 4.56's it wouldn't be pleasant for a 2000 mile round trip where the legal speeds are 75-80 mph. It sure would be nice the rest of the year though.

    By lighter you mean the clutch is easier to push to down? Maybe I should check one out and see how it works out on my bad knee. I do miss driving a manual for sure.

    The 16-17' have a easier clutch pedal to push down. It also has eliminated the over center spring on the older trucks which made it difficult to modulate the clutch at slower speeds.

    After 27,500 miles the clutch definitely feels easy ... likely because I'm used to it. Compared to my previous '10 Jetta and current '94 pickup it is a little firmer than those.

    My '16 manual 4x4 4 banger sr5 has been a blast! I bought it used (came with a chrome TRD off road grille and trailer brakes) and this is the first manual truck I've driven (driven a manual Mazda 3 previous). I must say that it's definitely a different beast than the small car. First gear doesn't get you too far, but its clearly gear to get you moving with a load on you. However, the clutch feels easy for a truck (I learned on an old F-150). Bite point is forgiving and shift throws are fairly short. I find myself finding excuses to go out for a drive just because it's so fun to operate...

    I have a '15 4-cyl 5-speed 4x4 AC, and test drove an identically equipped '17 the other day. Clutch is definitely easier, and shifting is better. Didn't get to take it up to speed to see if the lag between 3rd and 4th is better. Was a quieter, better riding unit, but will be hanging onto mine for a bit longer.

    Buy a 92 f250 with a manual, then get the tacoma. I guarantee the taco clutch will be easy to push. Bending a steel girder with just your left leg will be easy as well.

    The 4 cyl manual Taco is probably the best bang for the buck going on any new vehicle, it's a no brainer if you like it. I tow my snowmobile trailer so I wanted the V6. The 4 cyl would probably have been fine though.

    I have a 2012 2.7 with 4x4 and 4.10s. Even when cruising at highway speeds motor speed isnt too high. Im only at about 2500 RPM when cruising at 65 and just reaching 3000 RPM at 80. Gas mileage isnt too bad and you could expect to see 20+ MPG while driving on highway depending on if you have 4x4 or not. I get about 21 with my truck on highway and could easily go 400 miles on a tank. With the 3.9 gears for the rear end you are looking at lower motor speeds and even greater MPG ratings.

    I have a 2017 SR AC MT 4x4. I can't compare to a 2nd gen but compared to my older classic cars this truck is very easy to drive. Like all MT it just takes a little time to learn what the truck likes and does not like. It has plenty of power for what it is, but it is not a V6 or a V8. ∙ long ∙ you know what you are buying you should be happy.
