I know very little of hunting except that in a lot of places feral pigs are a big nuisance/threat.
Is it legal to keep a feral hog as a pet where you're at?

I hear you. One day when we get some land I'll have it set up with feeders. For now they eat enough of our plants and landscaping :D. They do like roses.

As far as i know it is. Hogs around here are a nuisance as well. There is no tag limit and can be killed whenever. A few of my friends catch smaller wild hogs to train their dogs with.

That sucks that a family pet was killed then. I've seen the videos of the guys in trucks driving at night and taking out basically a heard of wild hogs with what looks like a semi auto shotgun since there's no tags. But if that was a pet then :/

That is a pretty isolated instance. Most people dont keep them as a pet and wild hogs do a TON of damage. If he knew it was a pet then yeah he is kind of an asshole. If not, I would have shot it as well.

You are correct though, my personal record is 9 in one shoot with an AR and a 20 round mag. They were all at mud hole, snuck up in palmettos and just went to work on them. 16 rounds = 9 hogs at about 15 meters all in about 8 seconds of pure bliss, shooting 5.56, 72 grain hollow point Hornady rounds. I hate hogs, I just drag them into the brush and let them lay since no one I know wants the meat and I am not driving 2 hours out of my way to drop them off at the nearest charity. We have plenty to go around down here. You see them on the side of the road from wrecking peoples cars all the time.

Nice work. I'd love to have some actual moving targets sometime while simultaneously getting rid of pests. From what I hear is that feral hog's meat tastes horrible. I actually like wild boar, but I know that's much different meat than uncastrated wild hog.

It actually is not bad if you can get one and drop it in its tracks without it running. The adrenaline is what ruins the meat. I have a lot of friends that only hunt with dogs. They like to castrate them and let them go. In a few weeks they come back and hunt the same area and then if they get it again they will kill them and eat them. The key is to take them in a rested state.

I just shoot to many. I could never eat the amount of meat that I put down so I dont bother. My favorite is getting an immature piglet about 20-30 lbs. They drop very easily and they are yummy slow cooked on a smoker bbq as a whole piglet, skin and all. Especially if you scald them right and get all the hair off.

Whole pig is amazing. I was deployed to the Philippines a few times and one time we had Hawaii national guard with us as our infantry supplement. Those guys can cook pig! They not only scalded the skin to get most the hair off but also literally took disposable razors to get everything off. Cooked overnight Kahlua style in the ground and it came out amazing. Also had Kahlua style turkey for thanksgiving there...best turkey I ever had and I've made deep fried turkey several times. Whole piglet here is expensive though...I stick to slow smoking pork ribs and brisket. Maybe one day I'll try my hand a suckling pig.

well they are feral/nuisance so it probably falls in the same lines as an invasive species...illegal to own one.

We have them all the time. No special occasion. Just go out and shoot a little one and have dinner. You dont need to go far to find them.

Sorry, that was the first picture. We had to hike down another 2000 feet, so we just pushed it down the hill. Much easier to pack out. No it did not hurt the meat at all.

IMG_0503.jpg IMG_0506.jpg Had to replace my feeder finally . Got a 600lb one and did some customizing. Tired of cramming everything in motor box. This one has motor box then a battery box so I added an electronics box since it gets crowded with remote. Sprayed derp over Tupperware container and it's screwed and siliconed.
