Im trying to figure out my sub set up, Ive had 2 12s in an old truck, one 10 that I loved in the last tacoma I had.

Now I have an access cab, unlikely that someone will sit in the back but my dog will ride back there and I don't know if I like the idea of cramping in a 10 inch sub and amp back there too.

What about a fiberglass extension for an 8 inch sub where each rear speaker is, then running upgraded speakers up front instead?

Thoughts or suggestions? Stealth box is out of the picture too expensive for what it is

In my *1st gen*, ahem... I made a custom box for a 10" that fits behind the rear driver side door (double cab) I had to cut out some of the liner and remove the plastic thing on the back of the seat. It *barely* fits, and I put a grill on it just so the seat padding would have a chance to get pushed into the sub. It has worked really well for nearly a decade. I'm no audiofile, but it definitely enhances the sound.

In my old 97 5 lug extracab, I cut out one of the storage boxes (the one the fold down seat covers up) to fit a 10". Removed the door and only had to cut a little bit of the surrounding area of the floor, then made a plate out of some MDF to mount the speaker. Worked better than I anticipated because when I sold it, I put the access door back on and kept my speaker and you'd never know by looking at it.

I remeber the 2nd gens having more space for a store bought box.

I refuse to offer more constructive advice for your 2nd gen because this is the 1st gen forum... and because I think cuttig the doors up is a whole lot of work... :)

i was thinking of doing this too. heres an example (not a taco) and the amount of room you have to play with.

Thanks guys! and to clarify I do have a first gen, I no longer own the 2nd gen. I wouldnt even mind the sub sticking out a little bit, seems like a lot of work. I'll have to see if its worth it.

I've been thinking about trying to build a box that goes across the floor behind the seats and lays flush with the back set deck. That should give enough volume for a sub box and also give my dog a stable platform :)

Not a bad idea, would the subs face down? I would worry about my stepping on the woofers haha

I got a 10 inch sub in a big ass box installed today though, we'll see how I like it long term. Takes up a lot of space but it sounds good, I have my campers shell carpeted with a sleeping platform so the dog can go back there as well.

Yeah I was thinking downward facing. I have a kicker comp in a slim box behind my seat but I'm not super stoked on it.
