you can have a test pipe made for under $100 i would say. or weld in some pipe yourself. I can almost guarantee there will be SOME gain up top end. be cheap hp. get an o2 sim if cel bothers you.

I guess it depends on the headers, mine are 2.25" at the collector before the cat so it will always be limited there even if I increase the diameter after.

Ordered both of those last Friday to see if there is a big difference.
LCE has a direct fit test pipe for 80.00

My OEM cat still looks ok, So I put it back on.
I returned the Magnaflow, it sounded terrible and now my higher rpm power is back with the OEM cat.

If you have a supercharger definitely DONT buy the Magnaflow cat!!

weird I have 2 Magnaflow cats and noticed no difference in sound or power with them versus the OEM ones. They make a few different options so I guess it depends, I had to get the CA spec ones.

Going on 2 years since I had them installed and they've been fine, although I do notice the front one has a bit of rattling inside of it now. Might not last too much longer but can't really expect aftermarket cats to last very long.

It did notice the Magnaflow cat was 2” Or so smaller across and the weight was half or a third lighter and the inside
filter was only 3/4 in side, where as the OEM cat the filter screen was end to end

yeah unfortunately it's impossible to get an aftermarket cat that'll function and perform as well as OEM, but that's why OEM is so much more expensive...more valuable catalyst material. I'm not looking forward to having to replace the front one again, since this time I got the bung for my AFR O2 sensor welded into it. Gonna have to have that re-done when the time comes to replace the cat

Sound is mostly the same, but is more enhanced. The truck drives much “lighter” and can coast much farther on city traffic 35-45mph. When I lift off the gas- truck mostly maintains speed for several seconds before slowing. Here is what I had done for my 2014:

Full custom 2" stainless exhaust with re-route design from Charlotte Speed Shop.
TRD Cat-back exhaust (now with larger diameter stainless Y and pipes to input)
Rear catalytic converters removed, no check engine light on.

Started with TRD cat back- then changed everything forward from muffler to front cats. I believe the Y connector is Magnaflow- much larger Y than OEM. TRD exhaust opens up 2500- 3500 rpms or so. Interstate speed is fairly quiet.

I have now completed 3 cross country wheeling trips, still zero issues and no CEL.
    Hope this helps!

Nice bro!!! Yeah this info helps!! I have a URD cai and TRD muffler. Looking for a little more sound without spending 500+ for aftermarket y pipe. Local shop said they'd remove the secondary cats for 250. Think that's a deal??
    Thanks man!!

Sounds good! With mine they removed and remade the exhaust. Sooo, mine was a little more spendy. Enjoy!

Why do the people with 2nd gen keep posting on the first gen shit? Its a totally different system from intake to exhaust.. the ecu is different and sensors are all different in different locations and all..

But everybody is always asking why anybody would want to remove a cat.. the oem cats wont be restrictive much at all but are restrictive a bit with turbulence creating backpressure. But deleting even 1 changes the exhaust sound and makes it more throaty. Stock exhaust sounds really restricted and quiet like factory crap should be. But if looking for hp gains then headers to true dual pipe would be the way to go because the factory collector takes the 2 - 2" pipes and shapes em into a D and butts em together which reduces the overall diameter down to a single 2.5" tube that goes into the first cat at the bend.. that collector is whats gonna keep backpressure if cats are removed but will open up the sound. As far as the cel after removing, ive had good luck always with welding in those spark plug arrestors and extending the sensor out with 2 or three stacked together adding another 1.5" standoff for the o2 sensor o not pick up all the stuff the cats would normally stop.. the first o2 can be left with or without headers or cats. 2nd is one that will throw the p0420 smokers code.. but even with stock big ass muff on the truck the cat delete gives it a better sound.. and not a loud trashy sound.. in my opinion.. i deleted mine thinking they were clogged up because my acceleration was surging pretty bad but turned out the damn muffler rotted from the inside out and was the blockage but now i got a 3" header back with a fart can on the back with a glasspak and sounds perty gewd.. not too loud but loud enough so people know it when they pull a dumbass and you wot it past em with the finger flying and smoke rollin..

I know some wheelers that won't go out with catless trucks.

V6's aren't so bad, but some v8s really make your eyes water when you're behind them for 3 hours.

I never saw a 3.4 catless, but saw lots of the older 3.0 v6's with no cats, and zero change in power. Just noise.

Most healthy cats are zero restriction. Just a few of the old days of cats melting caused people to think they cause power loss.

Yea the cats i had wouldnt restrict like you said but they do have an effect on sound so guess theyre kinda like a women. Theyre better for you when you have em, they can make your eyes water when you go without em but damn it sounds good at the time when you get rid of em, but when you do have em and want em to stay theres always a chance some fuckers gonna come by in the night and steal em from you...

    Lol..
