I have mine coming in tomorrow. Plan on painting the letters before putting it on.

Can the letters be removed for painting? Love the grill, but could never justify the OEM price. This is a great option!

I was under the impression the letters came separate and I would have to mount them on the grill. Either way I can mask off the letters while the letters are in the grill too if it comes this way.

oh... the OP posted pics of the "faux" or replica PRO grilles. yeah those you have to mount them. with the OEM grille, the letters are held on with double-sided foam tape. they pop off with some heat

How are the letters affixed to the replica grill? Do they snap on with clips, or are they glued/taped on?

So these are from the real pro grill? What color would you say these letters are. Silver or more gray. I wasn't sure and I have silver and gray paint. Not sure which way I will go yet.

Definitely a dark gray. Very flat, no gloss.

All Tacomas should just come with that grill. Nice work!

On the faux grille you will need to mask the letters off. They do not pop off from the outline backing. Kind of a pain in the ass, but an hour or so with some masking tape and an exacto knife, and you'll be ready for paint. Getting the inside the "A" masked off (the a-hole :D) was a bit of an exercise, but the rest weren't too bad.

Worth the effort. Came out pretty decent. Mask off, lightly sand, primer, 3 coats paint, 3 coats clear. Once I had them masked off, I went about my day doing other things and walked into the garage every hour or so to hit it with another light coat of color or clear.

I would definitely give it a couple days to cure before you put the letters back on the grille though. I went to do mine the next morning and the paint wasn't fully cured. Smudged a letter, and had to gently sand down and re-do the clear coat on that one. Putting the clips on the back of those letters is a bit of a pain in the ass as well, and a little tough to do without putting pressure on your freshly painted letters.

They do have vinyl letters available to put over the top, but they're made for the genuine pro grille, not the faux pro, and are not a perfect match if you're anal about those things.
