My little '06 super white tacoma would look sick if it had a decent lift. This 5 lug chasis i guess isnt cooperating with companies i have looked at for parts. Any adivice or direction would be great

Ready lift and fat bobs makes a lift kit for 5 lugs. There's also the eBay special. The max you'll be able to do easily is 3 inch in the font and a much as you want in the back (back is wayyyyyyyyy easier). Some 5 lugs are starting to add a 1 in body lift to help clear 33's.

Thought about it. Therr are things i dont like about it. The milage was good to pass up for the price. Would changing the hubs or something make the truck accept a upgrade

They are really fun to drive with the lower center of gravity. Honestly for options I'd run the eBay special and save some money use it on something else. While you're lifting you may want to change out your shocks. (Well you will have to at least for the rear) For the rear with a 2 inch aal you can put in any 6 lug shocks you want that supports 0-1 inch lift. For the front I'd just run a set of bilstien hd 4600s. Check out the link in my sig and it'll show you how much each part affects lift.

    33s or GTFO

As Kenny has said, our options are Readylift and Fat Bob. I'm running the Readylift with a swapped 3in front spacer. Switched stock black struts and shocks for 4600s all around. Upgrading rears to 5100 in a week. Installed a 1in Body lift on my truck as well. Besides that, tire upsizing is the best option for ground clearance. Currently running 33s with a 4.56 Regear&Locker.

These are just the cheaper options. Not many of us have pulled the plug on Mid and Long travel yet.

    EDIT: Forgot to say Welcome!:D

I'm in the same boat, there is no intermediate or average lift. It is either a leveling kit or the long travel kit

Don't really want to lift other than slightly wider tires on 16" rims. Is there an upgrade to the stock front springs I can do when I upgrade to 4600's

I read the entire suspension thread the other day but just now found you had asked the same question about a year ago. How has the ride improved just going to the 4600's? I have ~42000 on my stock shocks and it's too mushy, one onramp sets up a fore and aft resonance that I've never experienced in any other vehicle yet it seems to pass the rudimentary fender bounce test.

My experience with the Bilstein's vs OEM, is that it's an excellent update.

The OEM shocks/struts are basically parts-bin sourced - this is a budget truck using common components from other Toyota products, not necessarily truck-based. As such, they are _just_ adequate to meeting light demands placed upon the truck.

I had my OEM shocks on the truck when i first put the ARB front bumper on the truck - that much additional weight over the front spindles, was sufficient enough to blow the struts out within about two weeks. They were at the 64k km (~42k miles) point.

    4600's / 5100's are also used in the Prerunner's.

The ride is stiffened up, it handles like a truck should. Yes, the occasional pothole might be jarring. There is no mushing in corners, body roll is much reduced. If you are going to do the lift - do the shocks/struts while things are apart.

Thanks, i guess that's the best I can do for now. Anyone know the skinny with the new bilstein 8112 coilover kit? It seems to be what everyone is looking for to get a moderate lift on 2nd gen 5-lugs.

I'm a little out of my element with this new product - i double-checked, and it does appear that it might work with ours, given that 4600 length struts will work with our trucks without a spacer lift already in place - however, they aren't specifically mentioning the 5-lug variation, which is always concerning. I'm unclear whether they would work with our Tacomas without a spacer in place - related to strut / coilover angle from the top mount. I'm not sure if the coilover would have clearances necessary. Someone is going to have to bite the biscuit and be the first to try them on for size, i'm thinking... and at $2100+ USD .. whew, that's a helluva gamble.

What they do mention is the 2.7L base model separate from 4wd, pre runner, etc. I scanned a thread where they were brought up but mostly conjecture since they weren't out yet.

Without seeing "2wd" base, yes - it's mostly conjecture, with a side-order of wishful thinking until someone gives it a shot and crawls under the front end of our truck.

The 4x4 came as a base model, no SR5 or other trim upgrades. Same deal as with the Pre-Runner. A lot of manufacturers/retailers don't even see the 5-lug on their radar, in terms of product awareness. In this case, i'm seeing that they'll fit the 2wd Pre-runner version, or the 4x4 versions, trim level base to SR5. The 5-lug to me is noticeable in exclusion from the list only.
