    TPS for a 2002 3.4 is ~$46.00 from toyotapartszone.com

You can go to that site and enter your vehicle's VIN and then look for the TPS under the electronic fuel injection section.

Interestingly, there is no TPS listed for the 2004 DBL Cab, just a "relay computer" which is priced ~$50.00.

They say that the TPS for a 2003 and 2004 3.4 is different than the pre-2003. I guess the Throttle body is different, and they don't sell the TPS for the 2003 and 04, you just have to drop 1300 bucks on a new TB, or just adjust it as I did, seems to still work fine...

welcome to the party, hence why this post was created :D

the TB for 03+ no longer has a separate IAC, and it is a drive-by-wire variant with a motor on the inside (firewall side) of the TB that sends data to the ECM/ECU

    Hey all,
I was having the same hesitation problem in my 03 V6 Tacoma...at 1500-2000RPM... I scoured the forums and am posting replies in the threads related to this problem because it may just be an easy fix for y'all as well, rather than replacing good parts
    this thread ...
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-tacomas/168680-cant-figure-hick-up-out.html#post9264168
suggested cycling the TPS with the engine off and pumping the accelerator 100 times..
    it totally worked!

    good luck!
    :)

I've just pulled the TPS off of my `03 Tacoma and have been getting COMPLETELY skunked on finding a replacement until-- with the help of a couple of very determined parts counter guys-- we found out that the 4- prong TPS that's been on my pickup since it rolled out of the factory appears to be physically IDENTICAL (4 prong connector and all) to the TPS off of a mid/late 1990's Toyota CAMRY.

    Yeah... I know... "CAMRY?!?!"
It's like finding out that your anvil has a uterus.

However... I'm going to get one and see if it will work. Sometimes odd parts get used at first and then never get listed properly.

93-96 Toyota Camry TPS. I've worked on enough old Japanese motorcycles to know that the TPS for the mid 90s Camry (shaking my head in disgust) may very well work just fine.

PS: The TPS off of the Camry also appeared to be THE ONLY TPS that was actually, physically IDENTICAL to the one that came off my Taco.
    Fingers crossed!

Which part number did you order. I've cut 3 different ones apart that looked identical on the outside. Inside they weren't even close.

I'll keep you posted on what I find out. Just for kicks, I went to the local Megafortress Of Toyota Worship (dealer) and the manager of the parts/service center took the time to explain very thoroughly WHY the part I'm looking for isn't sold individually. It allegedly has something to do with the engineer's perception of the evolution of the actual engineering of the vehicles themselves, VS the engineer's "faith in the abilities of the technicians" to repair the vehicles if something goes wrong with that particular component.
There was a lot of technical jibber-jabber but what it all pretty much boiled down to was that for my particular model/year of Taco, I'm almost certainly facing one of a few options...

    1) For a cheap repair, do what my dad would do, and scour the wrecking yards for that part and pay a ridiculously high price for a non-returnable electronic part that has zero guarantee of functionality.

    OR....

    2) Pony up the bucks for the whole throttle body replacement routine and know that you've got an actual fix with BRAND NEW PARTS that come with warranties and such, and not have to worry about that particular item for quite a while.

    OR...

    3) Take a gamble on the Camry part, screw it on, plug it in, and see if it works.

I'm going to pursue option 3, first. If that doesn't work, I'll bite the bullet and follow option 2.

A question for mechanicjon: I don't suppose you have any pictures of what you found when you cut the three visually-identical-but-defiinitely-different-on-the-inside apart, do you? I'd be really interested in seeing what you found.

As I understand it, the issue is also linked to the Vehicle Stability Control (?) System, which was supposed to help control throttle inputs if/when the VSCS detected that the rear wheels were spinning, or the vehicle might be in a skid/slide situation. This alleged VSCS is also supposed to start alarming (beeping) if/when it detected the vehicle might be in an unstable situation.

My Taco has never once beeped at me in the entire time I've owned it over such things. I've had the tires spinning. I've drifted corners with it. I've been on bumpy-ass washboard roads with it. I've done cookies in the snow with it. I've even had it completely airborne once (unintentionally, courtesy of too much speed on a strange road, at night over a poorly marked railway crossing. Whoops. Yeee-haw? It didn't go very high, but the person following me verified that I was absolutely, momentarily "in the sky".), and never ONCE has that truck "beeped" at me. I didn't even know it was able or supposed to do so.

It might explain the mysterious, frantic, panicky beeping of a adorable little Toyota rental car that I had a few years back in St. Louis, MO, (but that's a story for another time).
