im in Sacramento CA and over the past couple days I'm assuming, someone stole my plates off the truck. I don't know when or where exactly it happened.

Does anyone have any insight on what the first move is to get replacements?

    Contact law enforcement. Report stolen.
Then contact DMV and pay taxes again.

Report them stolen...or else you may get an unpleasant surprise from local PD if the thief decides to commit a crime using your plates. The DMV will replace them...although I believe you have to pay for new ones.

If you stay on the line, maybe you'll be first in the morning...

I'm guessing you need to file a police report before DMV does anything though

Filed one with sac PD but for some reason they didn't care haha. Must happen a lot. The post wasn't informative as I wanted. More along the lines is there an expidited way to get new plates. That's what I was trying to get at

They'll tell you to report stolen and bring them a copy of report and case number. They can't help over the phone.

    That's my bet.

That's what I was figuring. But I thought I'd give it a shot.

    Ummm. No.

DMV has no compassion for anyone. Let alone victims of theft.

Stolen plates won't even get investigated most likely

It's more for information so they can flag them

    Good luck with the DMV

Wow I immediately thought someone stole your skid plates. I've been buying too much crap online. As a side note, sorry people suck.

Happened to me in Florida. PD was great and free new plates from DMV. So glad I don't live in commie-fornia.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Happened to me in MN. Filed a police report. Took it to the DMV and they issued me new plates. Had to pay some kind of "new plate" fee. I think it ended up costing me $40.

When you get the new ones put them on with stainless metric socket head cap screws, washers and nuts.
