Different cover than the 2012. Where does the air enter?

I'm going to check this out on my 16' 2.7L. Glad to see there is a cover/ splash guard to hide the filter. Smog in CA might be an issue passing visual without it.

The '12's don't come with the cover but since it covers the same part it will snap right on.

I'm a couple of thousand miles away from my truck right now. Do I need to worry about this on a 2017 Pro?

ordered the K&N one to match my intake, anyone had any problems with that one?
Also seems that separating this sounds rather difficult from what I've read.

other than what I've read, any other tips or tricks??

Edit: I'm at about 155K give or take on MY 12 Tacoma sport. Thankfully I haven't had any issues but since I've read this I've been worried.

Couldn't you just wire in a resistor in place of the pump instead of paying $1000 for a new one?

That should work just fine. only reason people bought the "uni" brand one is on 2013+ the air pump had a plastic cover that the 2" diameter uni filter fits under to look OEM. It was my impression 2012s don't have the beauty cover so the 3" diam KN won't matter for you.

dude thanks so much, this was my thought. A filter is a filter but just wanted to make sure.
    Thanks

It would simulate an electric motor running when power is applied and possible trick the ECU into thinking every thing is fine and turn off your check engine light.

Installed no problem, I had to relocate my air pump when I installed my K&N short ram intake so that no one is confused, I had no problem plenty of space also because I'm 2012. I don't have that top part. I'm a little over 156K when I changed this out, mine looked pretty good there was a little bit of dust and a few small bugs inside the air filter that this new one will prevent from happening.

Yeah no prob. I am thinking about just getting the 3" KN myself since the uni keeps going out of stock or isn't Amazon prime.
