Like I said, sound is relative, not sure why people get their panties in a bunch over the discussion of sound produced by the exhaust system of a freak'n Japanese branded truck. What grade are we in folks? Just enjoy the darn thing...

I agree with @Law950 about it being relative. Also, unless you are there, or the video online is created with a good sound recorder, you are really not hearing all there is to hear. You need to listen with the right device too. Cell phones are not the right device. Play it through decent computer speakers that include a sub woofer, or a home theater system.

I would run open headers if I could. I am 55. I really like the sound of a true Big Block V8 with the right exhaust system.

On the other hand, I like the sound of the Taco unmodified. It was one of the first things I noticed about it. Especially in the parking garage when I work. It has the most unique sound of any vehicle I have ever had. I was surprised how loud/raspy it was for a unmodified 3.5 L. Loud is relative though. I think if you are talking decibels, it's actually rather quiet. My Harley's were loud at 118+ decibels. If you can set of car alarms on a city street, it is loud.

But yea, I am not 50 anymore and a constant drone or loud gets old after two or three hours of driving back from the beach, in the heat. That's why I like the BAMufflers, they are only "loud" when you really get on it. Of course the downside to that is, if you like it loud you are always getting on it and that costs more money in fuel.

    It's a slippery, noisy slope.

Oh, and thanks for your service @Law950 , my Dad was a lifer. Semper Fi.

I almost bought that exhaust. If you read the details on it you will see it is a lower grade material that will rust easily over time. I live in northern Utah where snow and lots of salt will hit the road every year, as such I spent a little more for 2 steps up from that model. The material is rust resistant and came with a tip. I believe the borla will deliver more HP increase being a 2.5" system, but IMO the 3" from MBRP makes the engine sound beefier. The install took me only 1.5 hours by myself, most the time spent getting the old hangers off.

How anyone can tolerate this engine with an exhaust is beyond me

I agree, I would only put stainless steel or at the very least, galvanized with a couple coats of high heat spray paint on it. I used spray lithium grease and a pair of channel locks to get my hangers off. They were still a bear to get off but that method made it easier. For me.

Absolutely! Getting a whole cat back is a complete waste of money for someone that is on a budget. The Magnaflow sounds great and is built reasonably well.

    What d
one other thing... keep the factory sized in and out tubing diameters when you buy your muffler. Things just work better that way from a fluid dynamics standpoint.

The Tundra sounds great. But the Taco? Not so much.

Getting a deep throaty sound from a 90 degree V8 is easy because of it's uneven exhaust pulses.

Getting a deeper throatier sound out of a 60 degree V6 is generally futile. Louder? Yes Quality sound? Probably not....though that it subjective, I guess.

If the GR engines had a 90 degree V bank configuration it would be much easier to increase the sound quality.
