    Hi there. I have a 2000 tacoma prerunner that needs new tires BAD. I've got some really honkin ones on her now and want to go with something more practical but don't even know the slightest bt about what kind of stock tires to be looking for. Also considering the pros and cons or going for new or used. Used is better on my budget but I know so little I'm concerned to get the wrong thing, but they are wearing fast and I don't have time to drudge up all the research myself. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I live in Southern Oregon, drive A LOT, and live on a dirt road so will need something sturdy. Thanks for your help!

    I have 265/65/18s on right now. If you aren't looking for a really aggressive tire I'd go with the toyo open country ATs or a hankook AT

    The Cooper AT3S are good tires at a moderate price as are the Falken AT3W. X2 on the Toyo Open Country AT - good tires. If you don't mind dropping some coin and don't need much of an off-road tire then go Michelin AT2 all day every day. Best of luck.

    What size tire you have on now? I personally like the Cooper ST Maxx, I have em in 255/85/16.

    I'm interested in good versatile tires for light off-roading and long distance highway driving as well as slick weather. Don't really want such large tires anymore, they are enormous and eating up my gas.

    @windsor I am in wolf creek. When you say you have yours in"255/85/16" what does that mean? Like I said, I'm a humble newbie with this whole adventure but I'm determined to learn!

    Glad you clarified. 31" isnt a big tire IMO. The tire size you currently have is what I might have recommended if you had larger tires on it now. You could go down to something more like the stock size for mostly driving on pavement and they would be fine for maintained fire roads/dirt roads. I wouldnt trust there durability for more serious off roading due to the sidewall strength, so the side wall could get slashed by a rock easily. Cooper Discover HT in a 225/75 r15, They are around a 27" tire so 4" smaller than what you have and its the size that came on the truck stock.

    Tire size specs of 225/75r15 comes out to be 225=about 9" width, 75=around 27-28" tall, r15=15" wheel.

    @SuperBad explained the tire size breakdown above. And if 31s are too large for your needs, I'd agree with going more towards a stock size. My 255/85R16 ST Maxx are roughly 33".
