As I mentioned earlier in "Hi From Granby Quebec", I acquired an Undercover Elite tonneau cover for my 2016 Tacoma, 6'bed. It's a hard flip up cover made out of ABS and lifted by two struts. It features a central lock equipped with BOLT lock which takes the print of your ignition key. Costs $1440 CAD. Includes battery operated LED lights, a fetching rod and hooks to suspend the cover to your garage wall when you take it off.
I bought it from Partsengine, a supplier located in Ontario, Canada. Fast shipping, excellent customer support all over. Carrier was Fedex, which provided subpar service: they first showed up at my place with a trailer van and the driver refused to help me out moving this rather large box. I refused delivery. They came back with a lighter truck equipped only with a small trolley, but this time the driver was instructed to give a hand, and he did. Box was somewhat battered, I took photos, but in the end the content was undammaged.
This cover is sturdy, well engineered and of quality manufacturing that shows in every détails.
It's a one man install if you use some tricks. For two adults, the installation is easy and staightforward. Fit is perfect and it looks great. Opening is easy, thanks to the two lifting struts.
    Weighs maybe 70-80 pounds.
I am very satisfied so far. Have yet to see if it keeps water out of the bed, but I am rather optimistic in this regard due to a wide and thick rubber seal all around. Photos below.P5130043.jpg P5130044.jpg

Wish TruXedo had this Lo Pro back and a feather stuck up there anus and I had a Undercover Elite on my truck then we would all be tickled.

I was to cheap and wanted to save $600 so I bought a roll up. I still may get rid of this roll up and get a Undercover Elite or SE if I decide to keep my truck after Nov 2018.

Well, I pretty much followed the same trail as yours. I first bought an Access Original roll up tonneau cover from Partsengine this very spring. My garage was not available so bad weather had me keep the item in its unopened box. Doing some more research, I arrived at the conclusion that I wanted a hard cover and looked at the Undercover SE. The upward facing lock led me out of that option due to the snow and freezing rain we get regularly up here. I thus decided for the more expensive Elite with the rear facing key slot you notice on the bottom picture.
Initial shipping of the Access had been free and Partsengine only charged me a reduced fee (commercial rate) for shipping it back. The difference was refunded. No shipping charge again for the Undercover.
It happens once in a while that the satisfactory solution is not the first one we try. ;)

I recently bought a 14 Tacoma, and it has the Undercover lid on it; must be the SE, because the lock is on top. It IS a nice cover, but I ordered an ARE CX, as I need a topper and not a cover. As said above, it appears to be watertight and lifts easily. I didn't get the hanging hooks or the grab stick with mine; the PO must've kept them. I don't have enough bare wall space for it anyway. I did have to take out the led light and lube the switch; sometimes it wouldn't stay lit. As far as the grab stick, I bought a golf putter at a garage sale for a buck that works for me. I'll be putting it up for sale after I get my topper in a couple weeks.

I think you'll be very pleased with it.

Look clean and sharp, should be easy to sell. As a matter of fact, I am quite sure the wall mount (2 hooks) and the grab stick are accessories for the Elite model only.
This truck looks brand new !
    Cheers!

Yep, the truck only had 7000 miles when I bought it two weeks ago. This is the second time I've been in the right place at the right time. Two years ago, when my wife and I were looking to replace our Subaru Forester, I had to take a detour one day, and ended up passing a Ford dealer and saw a Ford Escape that fit our bill. It had just come in off lease. We bought that one that day.

I,m glad for you. I was looking for used too. But there were very few on the market in 2015, including Ford Ranger and GM Colorado/Canyon. I ended up with an attractive deal (2012 Tacoma with some 57,000 km on) that proved a disaster.

That doesn't sound good. What happened with the 2012? I was looking for a Ranger to replace my '05 Ranger, but the prices were sky high. Of course, now that I'm selling my Ranger, no one wants to pay the price. Go figure...

As to what happened with the 2012, well, it was pure lemon: in ten months, I incurred about 4,000$ worth of repair (hopefully under warranty) for a catalytic converter, wheel bearings and rack and pinion assembly. At that moment, I learned that the previous owner had repairs made to wheel bearings, power steering, 4WD actuator and others. Not surprising he decided to get rid of it, as I did. I traded in at a dealership, duly informing them of my motives for wanting a new vehicle. My only misfortune of the sort with cars.
I tend to keep my vehicles for a long time, so I am not familiar with variation in prices...

Where are you located? Can you measure the seller's truck bed to see if it's the same size? If you have the rails, it should then fit, especially if both beds are either 5' or 6'.

@58yeoman. Im in California. I cant measure my truck because i have a shell. Looking at old threads i saw that 1st gens have about a 1" larger bed, both directions, but our bedsides look about an 1" wider so thought it may be perfect and possibly already done by another member. Maybe just need different brackets. Idk.

They're both 6', or long beds. Not sure what you mean about rails. Thanks for the reply though

There are aluminum(?) rails on both sides of the bed, and the front. Mine have slide points that move for tying things down, plus the hardware for the lid attaches in the slides rails. I don't know if they are standard, or an option.

I am considering this same tonneau. I would like to know how this has held up since your post last year, and if it has allowed any water into the truck bed. Thanks!

I've had an Elite on my '18 off-road DCLB for less than a month, and it really is a great tonneau. It keeps the water out and the locking mechanism is rock solid. I'm about to put it up for sale as I'm eyeballing an RCI overland rack and have abandoned doing a tonneau tent, but it's a really nice cover. If I was staying with one I wouldn't even think of looking at a different one.

Great to know. I just ordered an Elite LX painted in Cavalry Blue for my Pro. Hope it looks as good in person as I've imagined it will in my my mind! Functionally, I have no worries about the Elite's performance. Seems like most who have one are very happy.
