We have always enjoyed this free event. Camping free, music free, lots of free stuff from forest service reps, arts and crafts, nice river access to wade in. We have met up with a lot Tacomas, Tundras, Jeeps and others, lot of them go rock climb near by to gather firewood. RV's, R-pods, teardrops, tents, a whole variety show up. Dry camping but they set up porta-potties and have a water truck if you don't like river water or did not bring enough

Top of the hill, easy access from east and west.... oh, pass was opened on June 30th.

The event is Saturday but we usually stay until Monday morning and head to Bishop for the Mill Pond Music Festival.

Not sure how to cross post to other regions but please add it if you know someone that might be interested.

That sounds kinda cool. I've been thinking about getting rid of my camper shell and bed of my truck and replacing them with a pop up aluminum flat bed camper and moving to Mexico to become a hermit and live in my truck on a beach myself.

Don't step on a pop top....

Now I know this Joe down in Mexico
He went there to work on his tan
For years he's been plugged into blenders and songs
They call him the Twelve Volt Man

He don't need no charge card
    Just give him a die-hard

It is, any type will fit in. I do 1/2 of the breakfast potluck, welcome to eat with us. There are no tables, bring a chair, river is nice, music is varied. We don't (sorry, my wife doesn't ) off road but several head up the hill to get firewood and do what ever off-roader's do.

It is open camping, find a spot and move in, nothing is really marked as it is a open campground.

Yep, that's the spot. Saturday event but we get there on Friday and leave Monday. Bring water, chair as both are in short supply.
Event is at the western end, we stay closer to the eastern side, music is broadcasted on a low power FM station but you can hear it everywhere anyway.

Remember you will need a campfire permit and if there are any fires out there then it will cover for your stove too.
It's free, watch the slide show, print the certificate, sign it. Our pellet grill is exempt and we have been the only folks BBQing before in a campground....

Traffic can be an issue on Saturday morning. Most people just park off the side of the road. We will most likely be on the eastern side, be 4 to 5 teardrops tacos, tundras and a jeep....

If you are coming in from the East, keep up with the road closures due to the Slinkard Fire.

    https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/article/5559/39513/

    tl;dr
Topaz has been evacuated north of Hwy 89 to the Nevada state line. For public safety, Hwy 89 remains closed between Hwy 395 and Hwy 4 (at Monitor Pass). Hwy 395 is closed from the junction of State Route 182 in Bridgeport to the Nevada state line. However, Hwy 395 will be open with highway patrol escort when safe.

Bummer, I use the Chevron Station in Topaz as my cheapest gas in that area.
