That's a reasonable root cause to consider, but I didn't have anything but water, so too much alcohol did not lead to too much oil.

I would check your dipstick length. I don't really mean for that to sound so bad.

My manual calls for 5.5, I also did a VIN check (you used truck could have the wrong manual) and 5.5 is correct. If it were 6.2 I would be .7 low, not reading a little over.

I can't even imagine the results I would get if I googled "how to check dipstick length"...

5.5 Quarts was correct for the 4.0 V6 but that engine was in the 2nd Gen.

That makes more sense now that you say that as you are in the 3rd Gen Section.

Did some more searches with different keywords and found:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/oil-dipstick-problem-or-too-much-oil-in-engine.397954/
So it isn't just me... Mine is at about the same place the pic in that thread shows.

    This guy is too low.

I also have this issue and that's why I let it sit for 30 minutes without the dipstick in. I don't have this issue with the V-6 that is in my Fusion and the wife's CX-9, but they can't take me down U.P. trails that don't even show up on a logging map. We won't talk about my old F-150... Damn I miss that truck.

I'm confident I put in 5.5 qt. and not more (maybe a oz. more). I put the old oil in the 5 qt. jug and it has about 5.5 qt. in it so I think I'm good. Next oil change I'll put in 5 qt. and see where the dipstick reads. I might look for a new dipstick and if they are not too unreasonable I might get one just for shits.

Here we go again with TW nonsense. A catalytic converter plugging because too much engine oil? Oh boy. A little bit extra on the dip stick won't hurt you. Also these are a bit harder to read because the oil is so light weight it splashes around and it's hard to read accurately on the dipstick. Also like other users have said it must me level to get an accurate reading. Also best to do it when truck is cool and has been sitting for a few hours if possible. I'll post the factory capicity references below. Remember with and without factory tow package makes a minimal difference

Best to check it how I posted above and if it's overfull on the dipstick (check it a few times to be sure) do as @smitty99 said. Take it back so they can check it and it can be documented. But like I said in most cases a little bit extra isn't going to hurt anything

Here is mine and it takes 5w-30
    oil 1.jpg

I see now that 5.5 is for reference only. As an engineer that says to me that they have more confidence in the dipstick, dipstick tube, and that whole system being more dimensionally correct than the rest of the engine. This is not like the Toyota engineers that I have worked with here in the U.S. or in Japan. I'm guessing lawyers got ahold of the manual and did some editing.

Dipsticks are $10 to $15 online. If I can get it from the dealership for that or get free shipping I still might do that just to see. I've been in enough OEM plants to know they are not building the engine to the dipstick or tuning the dipstick to the engine.

Did you start the truck to circulate the fresh oil?

So I just purchised a certified used axcab 4x4 Tacoma from the dealer. Asked if they did a 160 point inspection and service why is the oil level 1" high on the stick? Told don't worry it's ok. Asked why they did not grease the u joints? Told they don't have greaseable u joints. I said they had zerks on then and was told that was only for the initial install. Today I checked further under the hood and found the air filter box not put back together proper and the air in tube not fastened. Love the pros at the dealer.

They just added extra for next time you need an oil change!
