    @RedlineTuning

Just wanted to let you guys and gals at Redline Tuning, as well as all the 2nd Gen folks here on TW, that I've discovered the hood strut on the passenger side interferes with the Volant CAI filter box. If you happen to have the Volant intake (part #18640) for your 05-11 4.0L Tacoma you might have to cut some plastic to allow the strut to clear. (Not sure about the 12-15 model years)

It's a little dark, but tomorrow I'll go out and take some photos. I haven't gotten around to cutting the filter box, but when I do I'll post photos of the process along with a "how-to" for anyone who might run into this problem and needs a little help!

Redline Tuning, awesome product! Your instructions were super easy to understand and made the install drama free! Until I was slowly closing the hood to make sure everything was groovy and it wouldn't go the last couple inches... :rain: (insert "that's what she said" joke:notsure:)

Maybe it would be worth mentioning in a future amendment of the instructions? Unless it already has been stated and I missed it! Stranger things have happened...

In any case, I hope this might help future installee's of these struts who also have the Volant CAI installed in their trucks!

    Best regards

    -Cam

Oh crap, I haven't installed mine yet, I have the Volant CAI on a 2015. I would love to see some photos to see if I have the same issue.

I'll be on it first thing tomorrow morning! I know the boxes are different between the model years (mine is an '08) so there is a chance that it won't be a problem for you.

I've got the air box out, marked up and ready to cut into. I'll do my best to document my process so it will hopefully be an easily repeatable project for anyone else who wants to tackle this!

This is turning into a much bigger endeavor than I had anticipated... I've removed a decent little chunk from the box, but it's close. I'm looking at cutting a bigger slice out, which I originally didn't want to do because that means making a new top plate for the filter box. Once I take a breather to think about it I'll come back with a better plan of attack.

For right now have a pre filter on it. No box. I've started welding up an aluminum air box that clears it. Haven't finished it yet....

While I do not have the Volant CAI, this is good to know because I have a 2nd battery in the same location and was looking at getting the hood struts. I have even less clearance than that. Thanks for the heads up!

I ended up giving up on the Volant intake and went with a AFE intake and I am planning on modding the Volant Ram onto the AFE

Did you notice a drop or improvement in performance between the two intakes? Would love to see how you incorporate the ram air. At this point I will not be installing the struts.

I didn't get to run the Volant at all but I will say that I believe AFE is a better built intake as I had to Dremel every hole on the Volant intake to fit properly and where the MAF sensor mounts the screw holes were off so one screw was on a terrible angle and cross threaded just to mount the mass sensor while with the AFE I didn't have to Dremel a thing and everything lined up perfectly

And I would be lying if I was the first to put a Volant ram on a AFE ;) Thanks to Murderface on XR-Underground and Lord Helmet have done it so using that idea for mine as well

Hmm, I didn't have any issues mounting my Volant other than it was a bitch to put on. But oh man, now I'm tempted to do the same as you. Please take pics of the steps needed to fit the ram intake. :)

The Afe clears the hood struts without modifying?

    Got it on finally lol!!
Used a 3-1/4" hole saw to cut in the box
    Bolted on this
Attached Volant to it and now good to go!... except need to get new plastic retainers to hold the ram to the body lol!
