I searched but didn't find anything. Are there aftermarket struts for the hood? I'm 5'1" and trying to hold that hood up while putting the brace in place is a chore!

I got a pair of the redline struts. Well worth the $100. Now just pop the hood from inside, slide the hood lever and lift slightly and the hood goes up by itself. Its also easy to close the hood and latch it down.

Thanx guys. Guess I worded the search wrong - like with Google - but seems like a pretty straight search term!! I see Rugged Ridge also makes some for pretty much same price - any difference/pros of one over the other?

The regular Plus ones are just painted black, the Elites are stainless steel. Functionality are exactly the same for both.

EDIT: I didnt see any struts for the Tacoma on the Rugged Ridge website, only Jeep parts.

Not sure what the big fascination is with these. They WILL fail eventually and then what's the point? Buy another pair to hold your hood up? Family has had 3 vehicles that came stock with them and ALL ended up failing and not holding the hood up. Had to carry a 2x4 in the trunk in case of the need to hold the hood up. Waste of money imo.

100 bucks to raise the hood for you. Priorities right? Spend your money how you please but I gave solid information on my experiences and opinion using struts. Take my opinion as you will. With this logic, you can say I don't spend money on thing's that I have seen fail and that aren't a NECESSITY for me. Im strong and tall enough. The rod works fine in holding the hood up.

How soon did they fail? I guess that would be the important part of the experience. If they last 5 or 6 years then it could be worth $100. But yea I don't see myself spending $100 on them anyway. I'm not under my hood enough to warrant them. The dealership is usually under the hood of my third gen every other month...so I'll let them deal with it.

One 2005 Honda Accord failed in 2 years while the older Honda made it to over 4 if I recall correctly. The other was a Ford with lift gate but bought used so who knows of the abuse. Can't say for sure anything about the Redlines and their quality or how much life you'll get. Great point about how much time you spend under the hood though. Does it warrant the cash? Not for me, and realistically a good percentage of people using their truck as their daily driver. Prop rod and struts effectively accomplish the same task. Do you really need help lifting your hood up?

I don't need the help. People are really into unnecessary gadgetry. This forum is practically dedicated to it...so consider your audience. ;)

A little different perspective and grounding is good for everybody. Unnecessary gadgetry is the perfect way to describe what people are looking for here. Good talk
