Have gun and want to travel through NY.. From what I'm reading if found in posession I will be arrested, convicted, then be let go after paying out the ass for a lawyer.. Does anyone know the law about non-residents travelling through the state with firearms?

I prefer not to face his Penal system *zing* but federal law states it's legal.

It's an amusement park in Elysburg PA, about 45 min east of Bald Eagle. Free admission, pay per ride or $20 (?) for an all day pass. drop the kids off when they are older and go off roading. Bald eagle is as tame or rough as you want it. I have stock tires and don't air down. great way to get introduced to off roading. Plenty of hotels around there. you are about 1-1.5 hours from penn state so you should be able to find some things to stay at. But you can probably head out there yourself, get lost and have a good time doing it. most of the trails are on the taco nav since they are named roads and service roads.

If you are SI, then head down to wharton state forest in the pinebarrens of NJ. It's all sand and it's no more than 1.5 hours from SI. It's a great place to cut your teeth to off roading. google wharton state forest and you'll get plenty of hits. bring a bowsaw and hedge clippers. If you don't have a bowsaw, get one. it's $15 and it'll cut through 3 inch round branches in about 10 passes. you'll need them if you don't want pinstripes on your truck. I used it on at least 6 times at tuscarora and michaux state forests last month. Better than turning around. and I usually have to use loppers or hedge clippers maybe once or twice at wharton state forest as the branches grown into the trail.

Off roading opens up when you get out of NYC.

First place I took my taco to see how she faired was wharton state forest. you won't get lost. all the sand paved roads on the map I posted are also listed on the taco nav map. Look for batsto village and drive to that. there's a small unmarked parking lot before you get to the village and the trails start there. Fill up with gas, bring some lunch and get lost.

some people give it crap, but if you've never been off road, take the 1.5 hour drive south. most of those yellow roads in the dark green area on the pdf I attached are all sand and dirt trails. I've never aired down. kick it in 4x4 and turn down sand roads that look nice. It's so close to SI. Batsto village has an entrance fee, but you are not going into the village. you are accessing the parking lot to the forest just before the village (or after depending on how you are coming in).

Thanks a lot for that information. Sure as heck beats driving 3 hrs drive (each way) to PA on a 1 day trip!
Yes, I'll definitely look up Wharton State Forest as well! :hattip:
All I need now is basically an extra day a week, so I could go places! Lol

Yes title 18 is the federal law, but if you keep reading NY seems to ignore that and convict based on state law, then allow you to use it as affirmative defense. I was hoping coming to a NY specific thread would give a little more clarification than generic Google searches.

The truth is, most of NYers who carry have a lot less invested in transiting NY without a permit than out of state carriers. As a group, we probably know less about the matter than most.

I will say, I carry a copy of the Congressional summary of the Firearms Owners Protection Act which "Permits the interstate transportation of unloaded firearms by any person not prohibited by Federal law from such transportation regardless of any State law or regulation" and when I transit a state in which my current permits aren't recognized, I carry my piece(s) locked up as far from me as I can while keeping them inside the confines of the truck's cab. I also don't stop to eat, get gas, get food and certainly not to overnight.

Was worth a shot. That sounds like what my plan will be, get the Fuck out of the Coumo-ist state as legally fast as possible.

100%. The state is beautiful. The people are (by and large) wonderful. The government is a complete wreck.
