I have a Honda commercial size genny, 2500W I think, that I bought used. During Ike, power was out for 2 weeks. We ran the genny at night, and set up our bedroom with a couple lights, an AC window unit, a TV and the satellite box. During the day, just lived with it, turned on the genny and TV at 5-6 or so, and ran the AC until 3-4am until the gas tank ran out, (also charged up phone/laptop batteries then). Filled the tank in the morning for anyone needing to get ready for work. Gas stations were pumping after a couple days, so fuel was not a problem, if it was, would have run it alot less. We lived out of a big cooler for refrig duties, used 2 gallon jugs of ice, and replenished with cubes every couple of days, the ice jugs lasted the entire 2 weeks. Gas was still on, so the stove and oven could be lit manually if we wanted to cook, propane grill tank was filled and that was used too.

 

After taxes and first year of being a stupid dumbass, $3.27.......

 

I can sweat it out for days as long as I have a cold one and cold showers.
