Was looking for a 4" lift. Considered (Still am) a Rough Country. Heard both good and bad. Had a 6" RC on my 3500 SB Dodge (Just sold. Miss the truck, don't miss the cost). Was a decent lift for the the money but ride quality was not what i have with my Limited. I would like to preserve as much ride quality as possible but want to lift it. Can I have it both ways? I don't do any significant offroading (For me, offloading is taking the dirt bike on a forrest road). Just play offroading. I want to use my stock wheels and want to put 33's on it. I took the Fox 2.0 with remotes off my Dodge when i sold it. Full system (Front shocks, rear, dual stabilizers). I'm sure that won't fit but would be nice if they could be modified to fit (Throwing that out there if anyone has any ideas about being able to use them, otherwise they are for sale!). I've heard from a couple of people i can't use my stock 18"s with the RC 4" or 6". Why? Is it that they don't recommend aluminum 18's for offroading? Or is it a fitment issue with tire rods or something like that? Can i use my stock wheels with another brand/setup?

I'm trying to stay at or near $3K for lift and tires, plus install (no...i don't turn wrenches to that degree. I'll stick to oil changes and brake pads for now). In any event, recommendations would be appreciated.

Seriously that's crazy. I actually like the look of the limited rims especially in all black I'm thinking of going with a 265 70 18 A/T tire. This is my rig.

Sorry no real info on that for you other then my brother in law runs 18 inch rims from a 4 runner with no lift on his 11. No issues for him. Not sure what tires size it is, but i can tell you it would be the stock size for that wheel. Most of us either run 16 or 17 inch rims. Not a real 18 to 22 crowd around here gl with your upgrade. For you lift thats a tough one. New leaf pack and bilstein 6112 all around would be best.

your misquoting me. I said i want to run my stock 18" wheels...WITH a lift. I didn't say anything about running some cheapasss lift. I was asking the "experts" if 18" wheels, stock wheels, can stay on the truck once a lift is put on the truck OR, must they be switched for something else because of clearance with calipers, tie rod ends, etc. So from all of that, you got..."$200 lift..."?

From my experience with lift kits, and that is not a whole lot, but I have done a couple of them; using "Stock" wheels on a drop bracket lift kit "Usually" will not work out for a lift like the Rough Country lift that you are referencing due to the backspacing of the stock wheels. Many of the drop bracket kits with push out the track width, and therefore the backspacing would need to be changed from stock to avoid rubbing and interfering with other suspension components.

I know when I installed my 6 1/2" Zone kit on my Silverado, I had to go with an aftermarket wheel with a backspacing that would fit the kit. All that being said, there are exceptions to that as well. Sometimes making additional modifications will allow "some" stock wheels to work; again I think that would also depend on the stock backspacing of any certain wheel, and the type of lift.

I am sure that there are more folks on here with far more knowledge that would be able to help you out more than I can. I am trying to learn as much about the Tacoma as well, as I come from the full size truck world, and this is all new to me.

Good luck on your choice of lift. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Ok...message received loud and clear. No RC. I appreciate you guys placating the site noob. That said, I'm still hoping I can use my stock 18"s. If for no other reason than I think they are good looking wheels.

Your truck is just pure animal. I like it. We have two different path's in life though based on your truck and your posts. You're young and taking the world on. I'm old, fat, bald and pink, and just trying to make it through the rest with as little collateral damage as possible! I want someone to look at my truck and say, "Looks like he might do more than watch bowling on a Sunday", while they look at your truck and just say, "Damn".

The truck in my sig is an extension of the young me that I can't seem to let go of. Still have it with its Dana 60's, front and real lockers, on board air, and 383 Stroker with a NV4500 5-speed, and its still a pavement princess, but the Limited is going to be more for the older me. I have NO intentions of actually going anywhere aggressive other than on a forest road to unload the dirtbike with it but at the same time, I want at least a lift that will allow me to put a more aggressive tire under it. If I could find a solution that would just give me a bigger and more aggressive treaded tire, I'd probably be happy with that but it SEEMS like I have to have at least a 3" to run 33"s. It seems like I have to have 33"s. The factory stance and wheel/tire setup is anemic at best. I know I'm vacillating a bit but that's because there are SOOOO many opinions on what's the best way to go that I just get head spun a bit. I've started talking with Marie so, maybe she'll help pin it down for me. I was reading into the OME/Dakar setup and the Bilstein setup. If I can get a little bigger tire or, go down in wheel size and then get a bigger tire, maybe that's the way.

Why? Late night beers and the panic of realizing, "OMG, am I going to be able to modify the stance of this truck with limited experience and with no support from my boys back in CO where I used to live"!

Thank you for not unloading on me and giving me a shot at mitigating my introduction reputation as "dooshie.".

I guess the show is starting. Settled on a lift. Ordered a stage II Icon kit. Should arrive next week. Still wrestling with the wheels. Stock wheel has an 18mm offset based on what i'm reading. Using an offset/backspace calculator, that SHOULD equate to a 4.96" backspace, which SHOULD be fine from a fit/fitment standpoint and clear everything. The wheels are temporary until i can narrow down a good wheel/tire combination but according to ICON, only a 4.75" backspace is needed and, factory wheels/tires will fit. That said, hmmm...supposedly i can stuff a 285/65/18 Toyo under there. I believe that size converts to a 32.8" diameter. I'm not sure of my math but if that is the case, and if it does fit with minimal trimming, i'm gonna do it.
