I realize this belongs in the suspension forum, but I'd rather source here. I'm planning on putting a full bed pack rack and occasionally putting a roof top tent with gear in the bed to camp. I want a new leaf pack that will match my 2.5" front lift but won't sag with the loaded bed. Conversely, I don't want the truck to stink bug when the bed is empty. What has worked you you guys in this realm?

You ever consider air bags in the rear?

I have considered it, but I'm exploring both options. I've been the aal route and getting away from it.

Skip AAL and get a full pack of Dakars. I had a set of Dakars with an overload taken out (good deal and pre- RTT) and it started to sag some with a medium height rack and RTT. I added an AAL into my Dakars and it worked well with the weight of RTT and camping gear in the bed. It's ass high with an empty bed now. But I have another rack and RTT in my future.

Are the Dakars meant to replace the factory overload?

Dakar leaf pack, if you get overloaded for that(unlikely based off your listed needs), then you can throw an AAL in there.

Will the factory bils work with this pack? And if they don't, I'm guessing the nitrochargers will. Do I have to replace the brake lines?

There's no leaf pack that won't "stink bug" at least a little bit between loaded and unloaded. Only way to get around that is with air bags.....or link the rear and use adjustable COs and adjust them every time you change the weight in the bed.

I've got Dakars and I've been pulling my shell on and off for a couple months now and the height in the lift changes a bit between the two even with the 200lb-ish the shell weighs.

No they will not, Dakars provide too much lift for the stock shocks, especially unloaded. You need to pair the right size shock for those leaf packs.
Yes, you need extended brake lines if you plan on offroading.

If you have a highly variable weight in the back, your only real option would be airbags.

The all pro expo pack (full leaf pack) I hear are great, tho I dont speak from personal experience. The dakars are very well respected, too.

But even if you get deavers or fully custom alcans, you'll either be really stiff when you take the weight out, or it'll sag like a mofo when you put the weight in.

Airbags are really what you need, but as with everything, there is still likely to be compromise. Airbags might limit your travel, depending on how they are installed, and they require a compressor. But hey, I know you were looking for an excuse to install on-board air...

If you want the best option and have some fab skills or know someone who does, do the 63 swap. It's better than any aftermarket leaf pack available.

At least on the pre-Tacoma pickups like mine, they are better than any aftermarket setup. They give a decent lift, travel, and better load capabilities, especially if you get them off 2wd 2500hd's.

I went with the Dakars and Nitrochargers. Installed them today I love them, they are amazing, easily a good choice. Thanks for the help guys!
