Headlight help

ive browsed around several discussions on headlights on here and have heard HID is better than LED and such and have also heard talk of needing different reflectors and such. I'll be honest I'm not sure which to get or where to start. I want to do my headlights and fog lights right now and eventually turn signals and brake lights later. Can anyone give any help or advice on which bulbs to get and the best place to get them ? Thanks. I have a 2016 Tacoma TRD sport

He's got all the LED mods figured out. I still prefer the HID in the projector housing myself. Much more throw, but the cutoff is too abrupt. I'm using the Morimoto jiggly conversion.

If your going to change the headlight bulbs and using the stock projectors, I would go with HID. Unless you do a projector upgrade that is specifically designed for an LED, you will get the most Perofrmance out of the HID system.

 

Are the projectors specific for certain bulb shapes or anything ? Got any websites that are good to buy from ?

 

Our projectors were designed for halogen. Aftermarket HIDs do a decent job but nothing like a real HID projector (see rx350 or morimoto projectors for example). LEDs may LOOK brighter up close but do not throw the light further than stock. In inclimate weather conditions you'll notice that they are dimmer than stock. I went with the hylux kit mentioned here with a relay kit and it's awesome; super bright and doesn't blind anyone.

 

As mentioned, the combination of Hylux ballasts, CNLight ball style bulbs, and HD relay harness provides just about the best combination of dependability, performance (fast warmup cycle) and visibility out there for the money. The pricing's gone up some using the same ebay seller but the kit is currently 93 and the HD harness is 40 bringing the total to around 130.

Morimoto makes a good kit but they are a bit more expensive, and the last time I used their kit with the relay harness, my harness was DOA....their warmup time was also about twice as long. Xenon Depot also makes a good kit and their ballasts don't draw as much power and reportedly don't need a relay harness but I'm unsure what their included kit bulbs are...they sell philips bulbs but those are a hefty upcharge. All said and done with them you could be spending over 200 and still not have the same equivalent quality, IMO...and not have a relay harness for peace of mind.

Diode Dynamics sells the Hylux/CNLight kits too but by the time you add the relay harness you're at 180, and not getting the ball style bulbs that CNLight offers.

FYI. When I ordered the XD kit Friday with the Phillips bulbs it was $160 delivered including a harness for each headlight (which I intend to use). Used a 20% off coupon that appeared on screen. Believe the % off varies so you might only get 15% off at other times.
