That's why I commute by motorcycle. Fuel, maintainence, annual registration fees and insurance all equal .$10 per mile. The bike istself was $4100. . Not to mention I won't need to buy another truck anytime soon because I only drive it about every other weekend. I'll need another $4000 bike every 5 or 6 years. The downside is one bike is not enough. currently I have one, but I'd really like another and that will lead to wanting another. Before you know it you have 4 or 5 bikes.

Three. I've found the magic number of motorcycles to own at one time is three. Anything more is too much of a hassle.

What 3 bikes have you found to work well for you?

I'm thinking my V Strom will continue as my daily driver and something like a DR650 (inexpensive and reliable) for taking to Baja (once a year trip) and weekend trips on dirt when I don't feel like driving my truck.

V-Strom & a DR650 are great machines. Could ride the TAT (Trans-American Trail) on the DR too. A friend of mine jas a VStrom and likes it very much.

I currently have two machines. A Triumph Tiger 1050 & Aprilia SR50. Love them both greatly. As far as a third bike, I'm trying to decide. Either a KTM 250XC or a 2009 or new Yamaha R6 race bike. I use to Road Race motorcycles & miss it. I would do mainly track days and the occasional race. Even better the local race track opened up again.

I've never been big into dirt bikes, but a few friends ride them and I'm interested on Hare Scrambles. Looks fun & a hell of a lot cheaper than road racing. Haha

My commute is 25 miles each way. Takes about 2 hours each way. Fun.

My truck total costs are a lot less than $10 per mile.

Bone stock for now but probably tires first, maybe wheels and tires.
I live on the peninsula in the SF Bay Area and drive 101 about 40 miles round trip from Foster City to Mountain View and back. I start at 6am and it takes me about 20 minutes on the way in, but almost 40 everyday on the ride home at 3:30. Worst ever for me was I think about an hour and 15 to get home thanks to dummies and rubberneckers.

Less than 1 gallon per day so about $2.50 per day for fuel. No stops between work and home. Hell, there's no stops for 50 miles in either direction....lol

25 miles (50 round trip). I don't have a single traffic light between work and home. Takes 35-40 minutes.

I will say the only good thing about my commute is that I get 27 dollars a day for fuel and probably only burn like 10
