Rating and how comfortably it will tow are two very different things. Especially when you're talking every day and not like a boat on the weekends. Your gas mileage will be terrible worse than with just about any v8. Just my opinion though

I tow a bunch f250, and with numerous other vehicles. How many people just buy the base truck go too uhaul and have a hitch installed? How many older vehicles around no "tow package" available then are still running. A small utility trailer doesn't require a bigger battery or a higher amp alternator to run 4-6? Lights no it doesn't. Will a 4 banger do the job yes, how many old yodas on the road doing world all over the country? I'd save 8k and get the cheaper truck for a work truck. Just my opinion. How many guys who are telling you it's a must and it's the only way too go have it on their truck? Most people on here say they don't even tow so why recommend it.

Towing everyday, won't be a problem on any of the components/parts? I do disagree that I need a v8 to tow 3000-4000 pounds. But would like opinions from people that know more than I do.

Most of those older trucks you are talking about were also built when quality was number one, now its about profit, so the durability is just not there anymore. Does he need a bigger battery or alternator, NO, but if he is towing nearly 3000 lbs 5 to 6 days a week, the cooler is recommended, plus the V6 is highly recommended for that much towing.

A lot of that depends on the terrain you are traveling, your driving style, and how well you keep up on maintenance. With that tow rating of 5800 and you will be around 3000, I would probably not worry too much about it. Also, is your towing a lot of stops with an hour or so in between, or are you going long distances non stop?

All of my properties are within 10-15 miles of my house, and of course in the same neighborhoods. The repair shop for one of my mowers will be 25 miles at worst.

Also, I live in Florida. No hills, just bridges or on-ramps to the interstate.

has anyone seen the need for a power steering cooler on the 2nd gen tacoma. Did lots of searching and found that the 3rd gen seems to come with one but very few if any mentions of aftermarket installs on the 2nd gen.
my 2015 v6 with tow pkg will see 99% non towing and I just flushed and refilled with Mobil 1 Synth ATF.

My first Taco was the 4 cyl auto and no tow package and I towed my enclosed 2 sled snowmobile trailer loaded for over 10 years. Probably 2000lbs. Never a single problem other than the aftermarket plug and play wiring harnesses. Truck still ran awesome when I sold it at 230k miles.

Any Tacoma can pull a 3500 pound trailer. You will be fine with a base truck without anything other than a bolt on receiver. No way I would waste money. You are looking for a work truck not a race truck.
