Great trip plan! For Lone Pine, you really need to look at camping in the Alabama Hills. Great historic spot where lots of scenes from many old westerns have been filmed. Check the regs, but I know there's camping back in there with trails and whatnot. Not a huge area, but big enough to tuck back behind some of the rock formations for some great camping.

Between Owens Valley and Sedona is a HUGE area. You've got all of Death Valley in there, Vegas area, etc. but it's going to be hot so maybe just look at getting as close to Sedona as you can in the high country of AZ off of the US40. Check out the Ancient Bristlecone forest if you head west through Big Pine to go through Owens Valley and the 3 sets of mountains. I did see a campground up there somewhere, but it's less than an hour east of the 395 and still puts you about 7 hours away from Sedona.

Going backwards on a treadmill is great for getting the calves ready for the Canyon. Squats, Lunges & calf presses. I am prepping for Hermit-Boucher-Tonto trails in spring 2018. I did R2R2R last Spring... Awesome!!! Trekking poles saved me since I did it with a torn knee meniscus.

Maybe we can figure something out. Are those dates avoiding any trips you might be on?

I do want to visit Alabama Hills, but since it may be dark when I arrive I might just have to day trip it (or stay on the way back from YOSE). Lone Pine CG is also at 6k feet so it will be a little more comfy than AH (though AH doesn't look bad looking at the early forecast).

And yeah Owens -> Sedona is a gigantic area I know, and it will still be warm! Not sure what I am gonna do there, but I will figure it out.

Heading to Zion in a couple of hours! I know Zion isn't much for bouldering but if you guys know of some spots in the park please let me know. I know of the Globe boulder and then the boulder on the side of the road at the bottom of the switch backs up the into the tunnel. only ones I saw posted online.

So here's my revised UL overnight pack list that I'm using for section hiking the Arizona Trail, and other 2-day 1-night 3 season trips. Got the base weight down below 9 lbs finally, and just under 15 lbs overall with 2 days of food and starting with 2 liters of water. Fully loaded with 5 liters of water (if needed) puts me at 21 lbs. Estimating 1.5 lbs for food (no-cook menu) because that's right where it usually falls. Not all worn clothes are on this list because it changes by trip, but usually it's convertible pants or running shorts and a lightweight long sleeve shirt. Critiques welcome.

Next passage on the AZT will be #26 which goes from Pine, AZ up to the top of the Mogollon Rim onto Rim Road. 20 miles total.

Ha, I’m going to be in the Zion area for a few days (staying in Cedar City unfortunately).

I left Yosemite today. Sorry that I couldn’t get with @Cuffs, but the weather kinda got poor and even closed 120 temporarily in the morning/afternoon yesterday and today so we had to go the looooong way around.

I totally flaked too. I was in the valley on Wednesday too... just too much going on and dealing with debris removal of the house. Hope it was a good stay and you have a great trip!

It was good. Weather changed plans a bit but at least I got to go up to Nevada fall and back before they closed the Mist trail! Also, even seeing some water flow this year was nice.

I was here in late August last year, and in late April earlier this year. Both times were busy but not ridiculous. It’s even later in the season so I didn’t expect it to be too bad, but wow. The bus driver lady did say that it was a lot busier than normal. Don’t know if it’s due to the cold front or what. There were still a lot of foreign visitors.

When I was out west there were comments that the parks are busier for several reasons.
One was that a lot of Europeans were visiting the US parks. That and the normal crazy number of visitors, and we say "Stay in the backcountry".
