So we all have these extravagant camping set up's with RTT's, trailers, campers, and homemade awesomeness on TW. Where did you all start? not like this i bet.

I started with a second hand tent with no door. small sheet of plywood on the ground as a cook table and a basic Coleman stove and cooler. No pictures because why the set up sucked but still fun to get out.

Show or tell how you started and where you are now so we can show that anybody can start exploring with basic stuff and you can work up to the extravagant stuff you see on the internet now a days.

Like stated above no old pictures but i do have new pictures.

    Like, so many.
I still use a tent or hammock. Nothing fancy there. MSR stove, Katadyn water filter, metal pot. I do have titanium utensils though, so maybe that's fancy. It doesn't take much to get you far. You just need to know what you're doing. And how to read a map lol

This is exactly what im trying to start with this thread. Just because you see all theses crazy set ups on TW and expedition portal doesn't mean you cant just have the basics. Thunder Fist post up some pictures please. lets show off that you dont need an RTT and fridges to camp.

    Check Build thread
No fancy rtt here, mainly because exploring/camping on a budget. I do think some of the best trips are composed of a slightly chaotic mess of camping gear spread about. :DIMG_5965.jpg mojave road_TW-126.jpg mojave road_TW-41.jpg

The new shot was at a Boise NF campground in Idaho for the eclipse- we took just the truck to be able to drive up there from Southern California and return quickly for my kiddo to not miss too much school (the 2 days missed were definitely worth it!) I set up the 2 scopes to photograph and watch the eclipse, and had a bunch of neighbor campers come by to look too. We have a trailer now, but still go commando mode remote camping with just the truck in the desert with our tent on short weekends - even if it's just for a night when we've had enough city and need a desert fix.

Didn't do any tests per say, but I use a cereal box size Rubbermaid container, and make a block of ice in that and that's what I put in my food cooler. Most trips that stayed greater than 75% ice for two to 3 days, then I drain off some water and refill with cubes. The other I put drinks and topped off with ice, had cubes for 3 to 4 days. I would bet that in a test, packing full of ice, it would last a week.

I use the minimal amount of gear the situation mandates.

    Tent
Cot or Pad (depending on which tent I use)
Coleman or single burner stove (# of people)
    Sleeping bag (season dependent)
    Lantern
    Folding Table & Chair
    Cooler with food & drinks
    Basic personal items

Doesn't vary from that very often.

Last couple of years I've brought along one of those 8x8 pop up canopies (if there's room) for covered space/shade for cooking, getting out of rain, etc.
