Not sure if anyone covered this, but Hollister has a handout they give you when you pay for day use, with a good map.. I think that is a great place to start - hit the green trails, then venture onto blue trails if you feel like it. Most of the blue trails can be turned around on, if you want to back out and go back to greens for a while. The blue trails that I was on were pretty decent and I didn't get any pinstriping, although it was close in places. All in all, it's a pretty good, controlled, location, for learning how to offroad. You can also see some insane black diamond trails.
