@Sr5_Tacoma it’s honestly all about the antenna, antenna placement (good ground plane), and a tuned antennna.

The 20 year old radio shack unit with a mag mount placed on the roof of my cab had much better rx / tx than my fire stick mounted on my tail gate.

As long as your antenna and ground plane are solid, the actual CB unit won’t matter much. They get more bells and whistles as the price goes up

I concur. I had to throw my backup mag mount on since the cable for my firestik mounted to my rear door hinge has a short somewhere. Even with it on the back of my roof it had much better reception than I've ever gotten with my firestik.

Awesome I was thinking 4ft would be too much and was hoping 3 would work

4' was too much for mine. Think that is the one I gave to @jjsul

@Dgibson529 yes, funk gave me his 4’.

I had Cam help me tune it the first time, then I re tuned it when I made a new mount. It seemed a little tall (hard to get the SWR down to reasonable levels) but we got it.

Either should work, but I think most people go with 3’

I run a 4ft I believe, and 4ft is half a radio wavelength if I remember right, which is why an 8' steel whip gets the best reception

Have you guys come up with a meeting place yet? We were thinking of heading up Friday night and maybe getting a hotel or something. Unless, if a few people want to convoy up from down here that morning, I'd be up for that too.
