If your state doesn't do emissions testing, sure.

I must have misread something. Surely you guys can get German, Italian, or Japanese built vehicles, right?
    Never mind, I got it.

    Yes.

My comment was only for if an individual wanted to import one lonely car cuz he liked it more than what's available here... companies importing their vehicles by the hundreds fall under some other bureaucratic gongshow... so to speak

I've spent some time in Hiluxes in West Africa where they are pretty common and I don't see what the big deal is. They are great trucks capable and dependable, much like the Tacomas, but they aren't mind blowingly awesome. I think st least one reason they aren't sold here is that we do have the Tacoma and they are similar enough that they would compete with each other.
I wouldn't mind seeing a diesel option for the Taco, but I do not think that would be a huge seller.

Yeah I think all the hype is that we cannot get them... so that makes us want them.

It's like our want to see a pair of boobs... we all know what they look and feel like, yet we still drool over them everytime; like it was our first time.

comparing my 2014 tacoma to my 2016 hilux is difficult just because the roads are different. i brought my caravan to new zealand and i can tell you milage towing is awful in both. if anyone cares to convert, 9 liters per 100 km highway and 16 liters per 100 km towing 2000 LBS is what i get now. this is where the comparison isn't equal because the roads here aren't big interstates with fast speeds but i don't mind towing with the hilux but hated towing with my tacoma. the tacoma is gutless towing. the back springs are much stronger in hilux as well. interior tacomas have more space.

roads here have a speed limit of 100 km/h but are so windy you often can't travel that fast. my tacoma was faster in all higher gears. hilux is quick off low gear but not fast. the 2.8 liter is much quieter than the 2014 D4D i had.

i love my hilux but i do miss my tacoma. i think the hilux is well built, i just wish i could switch off my airbags. I paid 43,000 NZD for a prerunner. i'm hopping to make this my wifes car and get a land cruiser so i don't have the 'creature comfort problems'

You can get a Hilux here in the United States if it's over 25 years old!

I did not read every post so I don't know if this was discussed. When I lived in NorCal, I would see some Canadian Honda (Civics) with CA plates. I don't recall the models now. One of them was my co-worker and she was from Vancouver BC. Never asked back then. That was 15+ years ago.

Now, I live 60 mins from Mexico, and I see a few HiLux trucks around. They (so far) all have Mexican plates.

I'm now wondering, could HiLux legally be titled here? CA, AZ, NM, TX? Since many do cross the border (legally) for business, travel, and commerce.

Back in the old days, there may be a difference between emission, lights, etc. Today, I imagine cars are all pretty similar. Mexico is a major car manufacture. It make sense to make them "the same," no?

I'm headed back to W. Africa in a couple of months. I'll try to take picture of all the trucks they have they we don't. It's mind blowing. Mostly Asian manufacturers but I've seen double cab Rangers there as well.

To who ever says what's the big deal of a hilux with the Diesel engine ... MPG!! And probably why it's not allowed in the US! Also torque!! I wish I had the Hilux Diesel engine in my Tacoma and I guarantee you whoever does overlanding or off-roading would rather have the Diesel just for the two reasons I mentioned above. I've driven one in Greece. Up and down the mountains. Drives like a dream! I've been trying to think of a way to get one here from there. I don't see why not. I know of people who imported BMW cars that were not on the American market. They were military personnel that lived in Germany and brought their cars here when they moved back. Just saying. Edit: they are roomier too. Back seat has more leg room.
