Was looking at this [LINK] as it has the setup I would like in the 4runner. However, when talking to the rep, honest guy btw. He said this would be a horrible idea for an offroad rig.

Besides ram mounts, are there any seat bolt type holders that would work on an off road rig for a HT and Mic? Yeah Yeah, get a kenwood face... I just spent 40k on the truck, I can be frugal a little on these minor mods.

Dash mounts and cup holder mounts are not in play as that area will be used for tablet for trails/nav and a smaller tablet for torque etc. Looking like the seat bolt gooseneck would be ideal.

    Thanks all!

Guess the best bet will be to get the gooseneck from LIDO and then 3d print a custom mic holder/HT holder and add a latch I can lock them in for the bumpy trails.

Putting the setup together now. I ended up getting the ram seat bolt mount with the AMPS pattern. I'll 3D print the holder and mic keeper. Having issues incorporating the seat bolt as it is in a difficult location to keep the trim/ouch protector intact. Going to have to cut the foot by about half or more and see if that works out.

I'll post back my results w/ pics if anyone is interested.

If cost is a main factor, you could pick up a kenwood 281, coax, and a decent antenna for almost the same cost as the yaesu ft-60 and get way better performance than a handheld would get.

I would defiantly like a descent mobile unit, however I can do with a handheld for now. I'll check out those models though.

I am putting my money into the rear bumper, locker, air and maybe a winch bumper now. Skids may be needed. Maybe Black Friday or next year for skids if It looks like I will need it. And of course I need me a suspension lift and fast. I hate the stock look and the nose dive while braking is a shock sometimes. After I get those, I can get me a mobile rig and some other secondary purchases. Detachable head units are a new one to me. That opens up many possibilities on mount locations that I probably hadn't considered before.

I gotcha. I've been eyeballing the kenwood d710. APRS, echolink and cross band repeat for around $550

IMG_7579.jpg Not bad. Just 3D printed the solution.

Next step, run the wiring for the sbb5 and mount to rear hatch
