I've got a 2010 TRD Off Road with 130,000 miles. I replaced the rear shocks a year or two ago, at what point do the front shocks need to be replaced? At the dealer it's an 800$ job.
    Thanks

You are just giving out all sorts of good advice tonight.

Bilsteins are significantly cheaper and better quality. So x2 for unchained

I'm at 149,000 miles on originals and wondering the same thing as the OP. Not sure what to look for when deciding to replace. Nothing is leaking etc...

Are you stock? And you have a 149,000 on your 2015 Tacoma?

an overly bouncy ride. i can feel my front tires bouncing over shit, diving when i hit the breaks. tire bounce on aggressive cornering. guess i should get the replacements that are sitting in my office installed.

    Unchained,

Yes and yes...it's a company vehicle, I practically live in it.

Rides fine, not really thinking I need to replace shocks yet even with those miles.

It all comes down to wear and tear. Most tend to start replacing suspension around 100k but again depends on the individual and how the shocks are holding up. We have several options available. If you would like to go over the best one for you feel free to PM me :D

Thank you so much @Unchained 5150 You Rock!! :headbang:

Had Bilstein 5100 shocks and struts installed yesterday. Did my daily drive today, the ride is considerably improved. Gone is the jumpyness, won't miss that, also the dive and roll are reduced. For what the dealer wanted for just the front, I replaced all four and got the ride I was looking for. Thank you Tacoma World, Unchained and Marie and all the others who replied.

Did you do the job, or have a shop do it? If you paid, how much? If you did what is the effort level?

Mostly miscellaneous electronic mods.... -2 spare Electrical fuse blocks hard wired to the battery with a key on relay. -Hard Wired Radar detector over rearview mirror. -2 Dual Whelen Avenger blue LED emergency lights, one on each side of the rearview mirror. -EP911 Blue LED Light Bar & Traffic Advisor, Rear Windows. -4 corner amber strobes in stock lights. -Hardwired RF Scanner with external speaker under center console. -Huskyliner front splash guards -Fireband 2 way radio in center console. -Herculiner painted on hitch and skid plate. -Switch to power one 12v socket when truck is off. -AntiDark LED strip under hood with switch. -Timbren Rubber Springs - Rear -MBRP Offroad Cat-Back with Resonator -Duratrac's -Provisor -Color matched hood bug shield
I took to a local shop and had 4 5100's put on. They were on ebay for $319 shipped for all 4 which i thought was pretty decent. They had the truck for two whole days to do the shocks, check the front diff, tire rotate, and oil. they did say they got really busy and didn't really get to look at it the first day. anywho still waiting on a bill. when i picked it up they said the paperwork guy left early that day. still waiting to hear the price after a week and a half. but the ride is WAY better, it sticks to the highway much better and bumps are much less harsh.

Oh, man, I'm glad you brought this up. I just bought a 2005 DCSB with 188,000 miles, (leveling kit on front) and not only does the ride seem a little rough, it seems like I'm getting torsional bouncing from left to right. Perhaps one side is shot and the other isn't? I looked on the forums and saw that what I currently have are the Bilstein HDs? (yellow/blue). I hear everyone talk about the 5100s, so I'm definitely planning on saving up for those.

Do you need any special tools for installing them yourself? I've replaced shocks before, but wasn't sure if there were any gotchas with lifts, etc.

Also, does setting the 5100s to "0" prevent further lift?

5100's are adjustable to 0 .85 1.75 and 2.5, no matter what you chose you will need a spring compressor to do the job.

I took the Tacoma to a local shop for the install, as I remember is was 300 for the front and around 150 for the rear.
Once they took the tires off, they suggested changing out all the lug nuts due to swelling, the nuts can swell up and become very difficult to remove. The lugs nuts are two piece and can corrode on the inside.
