So i know this has been created few times but I'm attending NorthWest Lineman College in April of 2018 in Oroville, CA. Wanted to see where the lineman guys are at, and any advice to maybe prepare me for school, I'm currently working at a good buddy of mines rental company to save money for this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Probably all busy with storm work:thumbsup:

All kidding aside this is my end goal. I've got 4 years in with at&t and I'm ready to make the jump. I'll be trying to attend SLTC summer of next yr. just waiting on my bills to lineup and pay some of them down. Made some stupid decisions financially

I attended NLC in Oroville back in 2015 during the fall. Best thing to do is if you feel you are out of shape, is getting a little workout routine going before you get there. Cardio is going be the most important during the first two weeks when you are learning too gaff and getting the rhythm. If you are not super book smart be prepared too study and get familiar with the fundamentals of math.

As a former lineman and freeclimber I enjoyed climbing in the rain and snow!, also before running bucket trucks I was climbing poles so large that you can't even belt off for thirty feet. Some of it takes balls, you'll be climbing poles out there with elevators all over them!, I've slid 10-15 feet many times and once I hit an elevator & fell atleast 20 feet and miraculously landed right on my feet on a 6 foot brick wall!!, without falling off. Be careful but have a shitload of fun. Oh dont ever trust the steps unless you've picked out a casket, lol.

That's cool! Now that I'm older I miss climbing, there's something about it that makes me miss it. Whoever says climbing is safe with proper training hasn't climbed long enough like the guys that taught me. I must've had a death wish because of the many near death experiences on different climbs. My pops used to be crazy too, at lineman races, he would run up those poles and jump down 20-30 feet at a time, all it takes is one missed gaff, lol. My brother climbs belted, I laugh because thats how he was taught, I just dont feel safe belting to a pole until I get up top. Its alot to wrap your head around leaning back to gaff in, Ive seen ugly shit when guys fell belted on.. Id jump off before Id fall on the pole and have a ten foot splinter going through me.

I cut out in climbing school for AT&T. We're required to use a buck squeeze at all times. Anyways, that bucksqueeze wont let you go anywhere. It can be a pain though when a pole is shelling, or has a bunch of crap in the way.
