Am towing a camper tandem axle, 6,100lbs with 70lbs on the hitch. Using a weight distribution system. Anyone have experience with a similar situation? Just want to make sure it's not struggling to pull.....

that's not enough weight on the hitch

it also seem too much camper to tow IMO

Rating is 6,500 so weight is weight, just wouldn't mind talking with someone that's done it. As far as the picture is concerned.....the American plate says it all.

^What do you mean by "american" plate

I can tell you from experience, towing close to the vehicles max tow capacity sucks. You can feel it in everything. Not a ton of fun. I might recommend a trans cooler if you have an auto and scan gauge/ultra gauge to monitor things easier if you tow long distances. I also agree if your tounge weight is only 70 lbs on a 6100lb trailer thats not good. How on earth did you come to 70lbs anyway

Rule of thumb...60% of the weight of a trailer should be in front of the axle centerline to prevent excess tail-heavy sway and oscillation that will only get worse and worse...and is that 6100 Pounds dry weight of the trailer? Added in gear, passengers, whatever to the weight? I personally think that's too much trailer for a Tacoma, but that's just my opinion...

You will be way over weight.... I pull a 3200# tandem axle camplite with about #400 of tongue weight. Add some luggage and water and I get up to #4000 very fast. I use a husky centerline weight distribution hitch, and a tekonsha brake controller. It is more than the truck likes. It does it, but she ain't happy. Read some other threads about this. My trailer on a weight and balance sheet puts me right at the limit of the taco. If you're doing it three times a year and 20 miles... Maybe. Loading up the wife and kids for a road trip? nope.

70 lbs on the tongue... thats ASKING for problems. 15% of total weight is ideal for tongue weight. 6100 * .15 = 915lbs at the tongue

I'm towing 5500lb - 6000lb, depending on how long I am camping for. I have no problem towing my KZ Sportsman 242BSHS. Just be sure your truck is equipped properly to tow your camper safely.

How long is the trailer? That's 6000lbs unloaded vehicle weight? And your capacity is 6500?

    Sweet truck by the way.
