Excessive water in the fuel could be causing the pump to rust as well as the issues posted in the other thread. Is the truck in Panama now is that where you are headed to?

If the fuel filter needs to be changed regularly that doesn't say good things about the quality of the fuel. Since the pump runs before the filter it doesn't get any benefit from it. Inspecting the failed pump might tell you more.

Where did it mention having to replace the filter more than once? I'm pretty sure I only read about a clogged screen before he fixed up his gas tank and that comes before the pump.

I agree with inspecting the pump though. If you dissect it there could be some new clues.

I see. I had read through the whole saga that was linked. Regularly = excessively though?

I change mine every spring not so much for the filter being restricted but so I can get it off

These are supposed to be 100,000 mile plus filters

Excessive water in fuel would cause huge drivability issues with the engine. It would run terribly.

Water in fuel -- bucking lurching engine. It creates a misfire. It's a different symptom than low fuel mileage.

I think dirt would be more of a issue then water.

OP`s comment was pumps keep burning up

Does that mean the impeller is worn to the point it will no longer pump

The bearings are so bad they seize ??

Being a DC motor under voltage will just slow the rpm down which happens in 30 year old vehicles like my eighties Toyota`s

The $398 question is what brand of pump are you buying?

    • The quality of fuel in Panama is definitely a concern so I top up the tank any time I'm in the city and avoid the countryside pumps. But it does not explain this level of pump failure, nor the engine codes or low mileage.
    • I change the filter regularly because of fuel quality, I just assume that it might help the pump, however it still breaks down.
    • Haven't done an autopsy on my late fuel pump but will do so now.

When your replacing the pumps just what do the socks look like ??

The filter changes are keeping dirt out of the injectors

The Denso "kits" contain everything. Sock, connector hose, clamps, clamp holders and grommets. Wonder if the OP is getting counterfeit goods.
The replacement Denso sock is every bit as fine as the inline filter as opposed to the factory "screen" sock.

    Denso kit.

OE pump at around 175K. Was working like a champ, replaced as PM.

Nothing to wear in the pump itself.

    However commutator/brushes are another story.
But still, in the early days folks were boosting voltage to OE pumps for supercharger applications before the availability of larger volume units with no ill effects.

Your wrong about nothing to wear .

Your pump was in good working condition

The more scored things become the flow and pressure decline

that is why I was thinking dirt is a problem.

Can`t wait to see the OP`s pump

There is no contact between the impeller and the housing, it would take some serious contamination to mess it up and it would have to get passed the sock.
OP said he is using the Denso Kit, like I said the Denso kit comes with an upgraded filter sock, every bit as fine as the paper post pump filter. If this is a dirt issue it should be very obvious to the OP and seen on the sock.
