I did a search and came up empty. Wondering what the change from high range to low range is. Seems to me like third gear in low range is pretty close to first gear in high range. Just wondering what the actual numbers are. In case it matters I have a six cylinder 2000.

I think your low range is 2.57:1.

Thanks a bunch. Do you happen to know what the ratio between the gears in the transmission are? I didn't mention in my OP, it's a 5-speed manual.

Thanks. So if I understand it right this is the ratio:

This is helpful. This puts third gear in low range a little higher than first gear in high range. It's also interesting to note that fifth gear in low range is only a slight bit higher than second in high range.

IIRC i think 1st is about 3.83 and reverse is 4.3

You are correct, Thanks for catching that. I pulled numbers from the wrong line. Here are the right numbers.

I thought 1st in high range was close to 3rd in low, and the numbers show I was right. It's also interesting to note that the entire low range is lower than second gear in high range.

In my previous trucks with 5-speeds, I’d put it in Low range, start in 2nd or 3rd and go to 4th. Most of the time 1st was too low. But always good to have that option.

When you're crawling there is no such thing as too low! In low my sammi could start from a dead stop, uphill in 4th without touching the gas. It was awesome on the trails.
