Yeah, that area looks incredible! I definitely need to check it out one of these days.

How long was the drive for you?

Yes. When I put the SPC uppers in I swapped back to ADD spindle and axle.

8.5 to the Morrison Trailhead. Probably 9 with stops for fuel. Hopefully you don't run out too. I made it to Riverton with the gas light on. Thought I was going to need to use the Jerry cans.

Checked compression on cylinder one tonight to see if it has changed at all. It hasn't. So that's good.

I retorqued my front lugs since the studs are still fairly new and I don't really trust the 1/4" spacer. Lost about 15- 20 lbs on them. Torque wrench was reading around 60-65 ftlb. I torqued them to 80 when I installed.

While the wheel was in the air I checked for any play. I have either slop in the rack or itrs. I think and hope it's the itrs. It's not much so I'm going to leave them until after RT. My front tires are already pretty low so I'm not too worried by the extra wear. Anyone hear of Moog itrs wearing prematurely? I think from here on out I'm sticking with OEM.

As for the motor swap, I joined a crd jeep liberty page and they pretty much all recommended against using the 2.8 VM Motori diesel for a swap. Some recommended the 4bt which I still don't understand why anyone would want the fat pig in one of these trucks. It weighs half a ton and vibrates enough to please the woman on Colfax.

Some recommended the tdi which I had kind of wrote off because it doesn't make a whole lot of power stock but I guess with a tune and some other things they are pretty easy to get to 200hp and over 300ftlbs of torque. The company ACME makes a bellhousing that fits my w59 trans so that's also a plus. Not sure how long it would last though with that much torque.

Rebuilding my current motor is still probably the most likely option to occur though.

So driving home tonight I thought to myself, I wonder if altitude effects compression. A quick Google search and sure enough it does! So from what I'm seeing is that I'm at about 23%less compression than if I was at sea level. So if I was at sea level my compression of 110psi would be around 135psi. 135psi is within the acceptable range!

When I did a wet test it was 150psi which factoring for altitude would be 185psi which is what it would be brand new. So it looks like my rings are worn a little but my valves are fine.

Finding this out gives me some piece of mind that my motor isn't in as rough of a condition as I had thought. I still want more power. It gets old having to drop to 3rd just to maintain the speed limit during my commute to work.

I did some hiking at RMNP and then played around Stillwater pass area on the way back for some leaf peeping. Not the best day for it but at least the rain washed my truck.

Possibly. I've been reading a lot and the easy swaps are all done with pretty weak motors. The Mercedes Om617 has an adapter kit with everything I need except motor mounts but if I can't get more than 150 ponies from it I doubt it's worth it. It is an all mechanical motor and has quite the reputation for reliability.

The tdi swap also has kits but I'm seeing people complain of alignment issues with the throwout bearing/bushing. The 2.0 tdi make 140hp but need the timing chain replaced with a gear driven setup. (there might have been a recall for it so most may have had it done) Also the camshaft has a terrible geometry and destroys itself and the rockers. So that would need to be replaced as well.

Still lots of researching before committing to this swap. It would be amazing to just let the clutch out and have lots of torque to crawl.

Absolutely that's how everything I drive/own is besides the tacoma. I started poking around the subject but you've obviously done a little more research

@jubei apparently my air locker compressor heard me talking other options earlier. Just randomly thought I'd flip it on annnndddd nothing! Lol Hopefully it's just a bad connection.
