Have you verified if that AZ State Trust Land has designated trails open to vehicle usage? Carrying your Trust Land Permit?

Last time I was out there we saw 2 side by sides and a jeep. So people go out there on a regular basis. On the permit side... I'm not sure. I do have a permit though.

Munds Park. The road will take you to Mormon lake. Its a good road. Nice road through the Forrest and possibly see wildlife on the way.

The first first place I off-roaded was Mount Ord. If you stay on the main trail it's a nice beginner's drive. However, going down the trail that takes you to the Ord Mine was a bit treacherous for a first-timer. I survived tho.

Now I just go to Butcher Jones (The Rolls) all the time. Hit one of the coves at Saguaro Lake.
