Yes, that's for sure. I used a lot more zip ties than the ones that comes with the box. I recommend to get the following materials to complete the installation:
    - Package of 50pc black zip ties (6" or 8" lenght).
    - Thermo-Shield adhesive-backed tape (Strip) for thermal protection of wire (thermal wrapping foil insulation).
    - 3M Super Wheatherstrip Sealant (Black) for build out/caulk under rubber grommet. (or similar sealant)
    - Small tube of dielectric grease/paste (most are waterproof). I use this in all connectors and bulb sockets for protection from dirt, water and corrosion (specially for those located outside or undercarriage and exposed to elements.

I was thinking a heat shield tube would be a lot easier than tape and a lot cleaner looking.
Just slip the wire through and then slide it to the area nearest the muffler and zip tie the ends. Has anyone tried these products?

Seems to me that either of these products will work too. They are easier to install than wrapping 3’ of wire with thermoshield and will look neat too. The only point is that using only zip tie to the ends of this section of the route, will let loose aprox. 3’ of wire near the heat parts and muffler even with the cable inside the shield. Better to secure this cable section with thermal backed adhesive over a few points or use some metal zip ties (plastic ties won’t last).

I did this, and I remember it being a Complete PITA. It went down something like this.
    1) thorough research led me to the correct instructions
    2) installed twice on the passenger side & it didnt work (called dealer and they said their install is always on the driver side is easier to get to)
    3) installed on the driver side and it didnt work (Is true, in my opinion this side is easier to deal with)
    4) retried the passenger side and it still didnt work (plently of swear words at this point)..
    5) retried on the drivers side and it didnt work had an Idea.. due to the multiple tries, I noticed the wire splices were pretty much crapped out.
    - Bought some new wire splice connector deals from autozone or radio shack (not sure which one). Got home and tried the drivers side again and it worked perfectly. I also completely wrapped the splices with electrical tape just in case murphy decides to F with me 5 yrs down the road.

Moral of the story - Before you begin this project, drop 5-6 bucks and buy some Quality wire connectors. The ones they give you are hit or miss complete crap. I now have a working Pop&lock set up wired into the drivers side and it works lovely.

    Completion time = all day.
If I had some decent wire splicers I think the first attempt would have worked, and the Completion time would have been 2 hrs.

    <3 for my first post.

Nice of you to join and share your story, lol
I had sort of similar experience with running wires to pass and driver side... I also managed to cut one of the wires with the connector... smh. All worked out in the end

20180413_232846.jpg Hey so I just did this mod on my new 2018 DCSB trd sport and it worked out great. Went through these pages a few times to figure out what wires to tap into. I tested the actuator first before installng it. I just stripped the blue and green wires and touched the pink and green in there connectors and hit my lock button on my keys to see it working. Very happy with outcome.

I put my Power Pop and Lock on my 2006 Tacoma today and everything went as planned except the wiring. The instructions told me to connect it to the blue/white and pink/blue wires. That didn't work, found a thread here and someone said pink/blue and blue/black. What confused me was the blue/black wire changed color as it went through the connector under the kick plate on the drivers side. It was still kinda blue/black but not the same bright colors as when it came through from the door into the cab. It was more like gray/blue and a very thin, almost impossible to see black line.

Going through the grommet in the floor under the drivers seat worked great and much easier than going into the engine compartment. I also wrapped electrical tape around the connectors in the tail gate just to make sure they don't come undone.

Okay this ended up taking way longer than I expected because the instructions were wrong on the paper and it took me a while before I found these forums and specifically RichVT's post with the proper wire set up (and by proper, I mean the wire set up that matched my 2018 Tacoma).

    Works like a charm now.

Oh and incidentally, I kept the wires colour coded at the tailgate (blue to blue and green to green) and at the front went from green (truck side) to green and red (truck side) to blue and the lock operates properly.

This is my first truck and I can't believe that Toyota doesn't have this as standard equipment or even as an option. I was stunned to find out that my tailgate wasn't locking with the rest of my truck. I mean it's 2018 and this just seems like a huge oversight on Toyota's part.

    Welcome to the forum

Yupp, I went through a very similar process when I installed mine. At the end, even though it took longer than expected, way worth it!
I was also surprised that Toyota didn't include power tailgate lock standard/option, but now our Tacomas are even better than how they come from factory . Lol
