I bought these more than four years ago seeking relief from my horrible 3.58 gears in my Taco. These are OEM Toyota gears from an 04 Tacoma, much stronger than aftermarket rings and pinions (different hardening processes and such). The previous owner removed them to go to 4.88 or 5.29 (can't remember) when he got 35s. They look like they are worn nicely, not too shallow or deep and they should be as they were setup by Toyota from the factory. Truck they were removed from had 101,000mi at the time.

Interested. How can I tell if they'll work with my rear end?

They're for a Tacoma without rear locker.

Damn. That's what I was thinking. I'm guessing Toyota didn't put 4.30s in trucks with a 3.4 and e-locker. Or did they?

I think most of the e-locker trucks had either 4.10s or 4.56s

What's the benefit of 4.30 versus others? I have 4.30 in my truck and it's really uncommon. I had to buy a 4Runner front diff for my 4x4 swap.

Just another of the Toyota gearsets, 4.30 has gone in and out of being common, early pickups and runners had them more often. Now the third gen has started using them. The ratio suits the 4cyl nicely with 31" and 32" tires with a manual, also very good with V6 manual and 33"
