The roof where I work was being replaced and they were spraying some paint-like material and over sprayed on everyone's vehicles. My Barcelona Red Sport has over spray from bumper to bumper.

My employer said a "professional" is coming out to take care of the problem but that doesn't make me feel any better. I found some good advice here but all was related to the over spray on the paint. I'm also concerned with the the lenses, painted plastics, rubber, vinyl, glass, and softopper back window.

How should I expect the professional to clean my vehicle and the above materials?

Below pics were taken AFTER I washed my Taco

Ugh. I had that same problem a few years ago, almost exact scenario. Detailer came out on the company dime and they used detailers clay (pretty sure that was the term) and buffed the vehicle. Voila looked better than before and good as new. The overspray I got hit with would come off with a bit of elbow grease so they didn't need to use cutting compound (again, per detailer).

Your work definitely needs to take care of this- I'm not saying they shouldn't. That being said a good detail with a claybar, maybe a polish, and a wax should take care of this well and in the end make it look better than it did before work that day.

I learned the hard way when I sprayed my shocks red in my driveway.

Optimum power clean. Very good stuff.

I've used this before to address overspray. Depending on the type of paint they used, it may work just using it as a pre-soak. Otherwise, using it as the lubricant for claybar will surely take care of it...just dilute well with clay otherwise it will dissolve the clay bar lol.

Eff that. I'd be getting a paid day off to deal with it on my own. Looks like a clay bar will probably take care of it but it'll take some time. And when it's done getting clayed, whatever paint protection was on there will need to be reapplied.

Not just that...to a discerning eye, most of the time claybar will introduce some swirl/hazing that should be polished out afterwards. If this isn't a DIY thing due to lack of tools/confidence, it can get pretty expensive with a good detailer. ($500+)

To all you clay bar fans.

    Nanoskin autoscrub.

You'll never bother with clay again.

To the OP, unless that is some really weird solvent based material, a quality detailer will straighten that up right away. I do agree though, let the boss with the black truck go first. If you like the results, ask for the same tech to do yours.

That's true. Now that you mention it, I did do that ONE time to myself. Washed my car (a civic) really well and then clayed it. I didn't get swirls as much as like a dullness to the paint. By the time I noticed it, I was almost done with the whole thing. I ended up taking some Meguiars #105 and a foam "jeweling" pad and lightly polishing it BY HAND to remove the haze. While it did add another unwanted step to my process that day, I remember the results being amazing.

But yeah... you're right -- sometimes when you clay there can be a need to do a light polish before putting on the paint sealant. That's why I mentioned a full DAY of paid time off ;)

I will have to look into the Nanoskin Autoscrub. I had heard of the sponge-type paint cleaners but had plenty of clay left so I just kinda ignored them until my clay is gone :)

A lot of good suggestions, but I missed the part where someone asked "What EXACTLY is that stuff". Find out, THEN go about figuring out how to fix it.

    Big potential for Fuck-Up here.

Agree the detailer needs to know what's up.

That's a coordination item between the vendor who did the damage and the detailer. A good detailer in a case like this will ask for a product sheet and even a sample to do test work with on a panel back in the shop.

Normally the vendor is the one who contracts the detailer for services, as its their responsibility to pay.

I suspect that some sort of roofing sealant might be more stubborn than latex paint. I had a car that got oversprayed by a painting contractor. It was in my closed garaged when he spray-painted the exterior, and leaked in and coated a fairly new car with speckles. A couple of simple washings and the overspray was gone. But roofing material may be a whole different story.

Agree here, find out what the product is that they were spraying. Roof coatings can be acrylic, urethane, PMMA [poly(methyl methacrylate)], silicone based. Once you know the MFR and product, google it, you can get product data, MSDS, and customer service #. Call them to see what they might recommend
