I've been looking for a good generator for emergencies (we got hit with Erma earlier in the year) and for use when camping.

Looks like Northern has the eu2000i for $899 right now. Included is a $50 gift card to Northern, so if you shop there, that brings it down to $849. Use code 254876 for $20 off, final price of $829. That's not bad considering retail is $1149.

I haven't bought one yet, they're on sale until mid-December according to the internet. They're also available at Home Depot for $899: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Honda-2-...o-Throttle-and-Oil-Alert-EU2000T1A1/206055241

Been looking for a 7kw generator also. Having a hard time deciding between a Honda or a kabota diesel low boy. (Neither will be used for camping) Diesel seems to be more readily available after a storm. I think I am going to wait till the spring to buy one.

Seeing as you want a generator for emergencies, and you can make do with 2k output, this is a great one to have.

I paid full retail 3 days before Sandy hit NJ, and it powered my chest freezer, gas furnace, computers and TV for 4 days.

And this generator really is quiet, which is a consideration in neighborhood (and camping) use.

I invested in the extended run fuel cap and have it all set up for the next time

Seriously, I know this thing will fire up when the shit hits the fan, which is "priceless"

    Good luck to you

I have a Honda eu7000 and eu2000 both are excellent generators. If you can afford it get the eu7000, fuel injection no carbs to mess with. For emergency use will probably last you a lifetime. Run a good synthetic oil and change on time. The eu7000 is also quieter then the 2000.

If you are buying a generator for emergencies, fuel consumption is an important consideration.

If all the gas stations are shut down, it is good to have a generator that will run on less gas, just saying.

I've got one in the garage that's never been used. A neighbor divorced and gave it to me so their spouse wouldn't take it. Got a new heavy 150ft cord with it as well.

We use a Honda eu3000i at the house for occasional outages. We'll run a fridge, upright freezer, some fans & a TV or 2. The EU i series are incredibly quiet, not sure if all have the eco throttle switch that brings the engine rpm down to maybe a fast idle, when the gen. senses a need for more power, it climbs right on up. We get 20-21 hours on a 3 gallon tank. Also this series is considered safe for your sensitive electronic devices. Downside on the 3000, is weight. You can also link the 1K, 2K, & 3K together to almost 2x your power. The portability of the 1K/2K makes em very attractive if it's gonna leave the house on a regular basis. Lastly....do your maintenance, & I'm a fanatic about using non-ethanol fuel, & fuel stabilizer, as it sits for months on end sometimes between uses. I do wheel it outside every other month or so and run it for about 5-10 minutes.

Do you guys set up the gen to parallel to the house circuit? Or simply run it with extension cords?

My eu7000 is wired to the house by a sub panel. Don't cheap out and back feed through your dryer cord, too much could happen.

Is that the price for the 2k? If it is, it's a good deal.

The Yamaha and Honda are similarly good from what I hear, and usually around the same price.

My generator was made in Japan from what I remember, wonder if the Yamaha is also.

Aux tanks, parallel cables to make it 4kW. One pull start (max of two):
Runs fridge/freezer, electricals of the whole house natural gas heating system, microwave, toaster oven and most important: Coffee maker and WiFi

I have two of the eu2000's with parallel kit (30amp@120v) and 6gal tank, finally used them during the hurricane power outage. For 2-1/2 days they only used 8gals of gas running a 8,000btu window unit, fridge, lights, and well pump. Entire house but no 240v stuff. I'm an electrician so I just wired it directly to my power panel, no cords to trip over. I figure with the gas we had in our cars, we were good for weeks. I also learned the carbs are very easy to clean if lacquered up, 1 can of carb cleaner and you tube, mine were running like new in 15 minutes. They only stayed in the truck the worst night, when the wind died down they over heated a bit, so they went on the ground in open air, but chained to a trailer. With a window ac unit running, we never heard the generators.

I have one eu2000 and have had to use it a few times. I like that it will power our gas furnace, sump pump, chest freezer and FiOS router/ phone line.

We are comfortable, but not too comfortable.

We live in a neighborhood where the houses are close, but not too close. I have let neighbors borrow my generator to get heat going and cool a refrigerator. Easy to carry and easy to chain to a post or whatever, and relatively quiet.

We have neighbors with whole house generators, and you can hear the generators going and the houses fully lit up, maybe comfortable, but not as much fun roughing it with the rest of us, lol.
