Looking to install an aftermarket exhaust to my 16' tacoma. Looking for an overall deep sound to it and am open minded to whatever's out there. Any suggestions?

I did a Jones turbine muffler swap. Nice and throaty with no drone.

As of late I have been looking at the flowmaster series. You personally have a magnaflow?

I did a Flowmaster super 44, sounds ok... Not completely happy. Good deep tone at idle but at high RPM starts sounding a little ricy for my taste.

Leaning towards the flowmasters 50 series and thanks for that input cause the super 44 was in my top 3.

I installed the TRD cat back system on my OR and it has a great tone and no drone.

    Youtube is a joke.
U cant compare exhausts well with it due to the mic used from person to person.

Go to a shop, tell em what u want in sound and that u want to try 3 or 4 different MUFFLERS. Have them clamp 1 muffler at a time to ur existing pipes. Ask them to NOT tell u what muffler is clamped on.Then start the truck. Listen to it. Repeat for each muffler

Use your ears to chose the MUFFLER.
No need for larger pipes unless force fed, so why waste money on a catback?

Have them tell ya the muffler brand after its welded on.

I recorded my truck with short tubes, and long tubes with a gopro. Same setup otherwise, same day, same garage, same gopro, same bench to set the gopro on each time.

Long tubes rattled walls it was so deep...shorties didnt.

Gopro video sounds the same from both setups. Some mics just cannot pick up certain frequencies.
My playback source is capable of reproducing down to 15hz, so that was not the issue.

So, take youtube with a grain of salt.

U also dont know if anyone edited the sound before uploading.

I previously had a flowmaster series 50 muffler 1in/2out running split exhaust that came out of the back of the truck. I loved that system and the sound, especially with my intake installed, but it rusted away and I needed to make another exhaust. I got my exhaust built earlier this month using a Black widow 2.5" Venom 250 muffler and an aFe Stage-2 Si Pro 5R Cold Air Intake System Dry filter. Since a good amount of the steel that was used to build the previous system rusted away and had to be cut with a sawzall, I essentially made my own Cat back exhaust at the muffler shop out of new Stainless steel 409 grade.

I really like the sound of the Venom 250 on my truck. The initial firing up sound is aggressive and loud enough but doesn't scare small children. It was 11F this morning while starting the truck in the video. With that said, your neighbors will definitely know when you have started your truck because the exhaust note travels inside the house easily. Just under normal idle while sitting at a light or in a drive through you wont notice it to much, but once you get on the throttle you and everyone around you will hear it. Getting onto the highway or passing anyone puts a smile on my face each and every time.

The biggest thing that I noticed with this muffler compared to the last system that was on my truck is how much "quieter" the Black widow muffler sounds inside the cab compared to outside the truck, It doesn't sound annoying or overly loud. It has some hum at 1500 rpm, so going 35 down the road you might have a little hum but not annoying drone. At 2k RPM while doing 70mph the exhaust is comfortably quiet and easy to drive, but once you bring the motor up to 3200 RPM and the CAI also starts to sing she stops sounding like a Tacoma and just makes me smile.

The company Black widow is worth looking into to for sure. You could simply cut out the factory muffler and have an exhaust shop weld in a new Black widow muffler.

No clue off hand to be honest, ironically it's a company owned by flowmaster so it's literally the same piece just not the name. Pretty good on my 4banger

    Addon:

With the old exhaust I noticed that after 3k rpm you would loose the sound of the muffler because the intake sound would take over. After having the new exhaust for about a month now the biggest thing that I noticed is a pretty consistant power band and also engine sound. There is no drop of one sound for another. As the RPMs get higher the whole engine system sounds strong and happy.
