Great information here in this thread. I know this is a Tacoma forum but I own a 97 T100 SR5 that I have been driving for 17 years and I am thinking about doing this conversion. As you guys may already know, there is very little information on anything to do with the T100 due to it's unpopularity. If anything, I think I will have a little extra space for the intercooler and plumbing. This thing deserves more power.

Thanks! I have put a lot into it over the last year. It was time to get something new or revive this one. I work on the new stuff for a living and I can tell you they aren't the same as this generation of trucks

    No, definitely not the same.
If I could give you any advice right now, it would be to address any oil leaks you might have now... because the extra pressure from the turbo WILL aggravate any worn seals. I had to replace just about every oil seal on my truck. MAKE SURE to use an oil catch can and make sure the vent will never see any boost.
Other than that, everything else has been relatively hassle-free

Thanks for that. I went through the truck pretty thoroughly in the last year and replaced valve cover gaskets, cam seals, crank seal, rear main, new clutch, rebuilt front end, timing belt, valve seals, head gaskets, etc ect the list goes on and on. Now I just need to get the shopping list in order and start scouring the web for deals.

I need some help fellas. I'll be posting this on more than one thread (thanks in advance Josh)
My truck has been running lean in closed loop lately... like 17:1 and even leaner. Under 55mph it seems to be normal, but at highway speeds it slowly starts to revert to running lean (fluctuate from 15:1 to sometimes 20:1). Also when I come to a stop and put it in neutral, the truck will idle very low at 17:1 or leaner, then (usually) gradually go back up to 800RPM at 15ish:1 AFR within 10 seconds. WOT is PERFECT 11.5:1 AFR and very powerful (14-18 degrees timing advance depending on outside temp).
The weird thing is that my OBDII reader is telling me that the O2 thinks that I'm running rich (I think). I have no cat, and ZERO rear o2 manipulation, and the readings tend to vary A LOT between the two sensors. When it goes lean, the scanner says that the front O2 reads ".500+" and the rear will read ".200 or lower". LTFT will sometimes be up to "-15". I had a year old denso o2 that I swapped for a boshe (yeah yeah I know) to see if the denso was bad, but nothing changed. No intake leaks, no FPR leaks.
I have cleaned the MAF and it's inner wires to a mirror shine. I have cleaned the connectors for the MAF and the front O2 and applied dielectric grease.
    Oh... and no codes.
If I turn the engine off and back on quick (while driving), it will run perfectly for a couple minutes.
Also, I know that when engine braking (MT), the ECU is supposed to cut the fuel which should result in maximum lean readings on the wideband... but my AFR's are 10:1-13:1 while engine braking.
I really need some advice because I have serious problems with not only running lean, but taking my truck in for something that is probably easy to fix.

My first thought would be a biased rich upstream O2 sensor, but you said you swapped for another and no change. Without be able to drive it myself, I would recommend swapping the MAF for a known good part. A dirty MAF can cause a lean condition by essentially not reading all the incoming air and throwing off the fuel to air calculation. But a rich condition would be a different issue. Possibly a malfunctioning MAF

Have you done a hard ground reset on your ecu to try and clear it up?

My first thought was a malfunctioning MAF... but then I unplugged the front O2 and went for a ride. Then no more lean

Thanks for your comments. I am going to leave the mirrors and grille alone for now. I might spray all the chrome with a black tinted clear later, if I need to change the look. Right now I am trying to assemble a turbo setup. Gio---how is your leanout condition doing?

Um oops, I forgot to update the thread... so for some reason, my front o2 developed a distaste for the location that it was in within the downpipe. I changed it out with a brand new bosch out of the box and absolutely nothing changed. I then plugged the front o2 wire into the rear o2 sensor (same part number in both banks for my 96) and the leaning out completely went away. I ordered a weld-in flange and an o2 extension harness and plan on relocating the front o2 closer to the turbo (beside the wideband bung)

Ok dudes, so I’ve had an exhaust leak on the driver side and I’ve been wanting to relocate my front o2 sensor closer to the turbo.
The far away o2 was causing lean running and the crappy ring metal gaskets that come with the CX racing kit were causing the exhaust leak (developed lots of little cracks).
Also my 2 year old Walbro 255LPH fuel pump already started to go out (lately my truck would intermittently take 10-20 seconds to start), so I threw a bigger TT Supra 280LPH pump in there.
    Runnin WAY better now!

It’s awesome man. I removed my intercooler and just did a straight shot into the throttle body due to me already having methanol injection. Runs a lot smoother and the lag is lessened

So my little 57-60 Garret started to leak oil past it’s seal into the intake and was giving me nice little clouds of smoke out of the exhaust, so instead of sending it off to be rebuilt and riding the bus to work for two weeks I ordered a new one. Just a $250 Amazon special haha!!! I wanted to try out a super cheap turbo and so far it’s better than the Garret ever was. It’s a 66-62 T4 Twin scroll and the lag is identical to my garret but with a much less anemic midrange and top end. And the choochoo noises are out of this world. The whistling and whooshing sound like a high HP supra. Very happy so far!
