Looking at building a 4Runner that will see both city traffic and Overlanding. Was looking at '16 Trail edition or should i get the TRD Pro? Will be lots of pavement to get to the trails and then 75% medium trails 25% hard trails. Have done it all from Rubicon to desert and this rig definitely won't be taken on the Rubicon but will go to Slick Rock and Deer Valley type trails. Have family of 4, young ones are 1.5 and 4 days old right now. Would like to get this on a shakedown trip by fall next year.

We use a 570. No interest in a 200 series?

If I had to get a 4 runner, it would be a Pro. But for us the 200 series/LC provides a fantastic overloading platform.

I would save your money from the premium editions and put that into outfitting and suspension. When I bought my 4runner, the bank gave me more than I paid for the vehicle, money I used for the build.

Changed our minds yesterday, have a '06 Tacoma extra cab that will be built. Didn't think it would fit 2 car seats but it does! Making a list of mods now. Advise welcome! Have about 10k to spend, not including RTT.

Cut & broke off some stuff.
if you ever get a 3rd child, access cab is no use. i did weekend trips with 3 littles plus wife in double cab and it was tight fit.

edit. I now have 4 littles so even double cab doesnt work. Thinking about trading Highlander for a 4R or LC.
