Figured it out. Well got it leak tested and recharged at a local shop. No leaks and running ice cold.

I will be painting my dash this week and getting her all buttoned up.

Thanks again for the awesome write-up.

Bump for appreciation....just went thru this process (but didn’t read all of the responses). Big thanks for the overall process and fluid quantities. I have a v6 but everything was similar. Except I wiggled the compressor out thru the bottom. Had to unbolt a few hose clamps but it came out pretty easily.

    One more thing to add...

Got the system recharged this morning and everything is working beautifully. Ice cold air and no leaks. However, the tech mentioned that all of the oil I added to the system was sucked out when they recharged it. Apparently the refrigerant they use already has the required oil in it, so there's no need to add any (his words, the instructions on the new compressor said differently).

I don't know if he's correct or not, but seems kinda logical. Maybe that explains why there was only about 50 cc's of oil in the old compressor, but 125 cc's in the new one.

Either way, I have AC now. No more hating this truck on 90+ degree days!

Ummm... what? Oil can't be sucked out unless they flush the lines. If he meant the oil got sucked out from vacuuming the lines, then he's wrong. Pulling a vacuum only removes moisture.

If your AC is cold then you probably don't have too much oil in your system. You may have a little more than you should, if you measured correctly. But if it's still cold then it won't hurt anything to have a little extra oil in there from them putting r134+oil into it.

I don't know man, just repeating what he said. The oil is mixed in with the refrigerant, so it makes sense that you'd loose some when the refrigerant is evacuated....kinda...hell I don't know, lol

Bumping this, gathering parts. Still need to get it evac'd to see if it grenaded, but in the case that it did, can I go with a UAC or Four seasons condensor since it's a static part? Going Denso on everything else but this doesn't seem worth the extra $120 on Denso.

condenser or evap? I think I paid like $75 for my Denso condenser. Shipping was a bear though. Are you looking on densoproducts.com? Part number 477-0504... for the 3.4L though

Ah shit I meant evap. Condenser is $93 on Amazon.

    Condenser:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000C5YFW...olid=2079LZ8C9DA1A&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

    Compressor:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001UCGHS...olid=2079LZ8C9DA1A&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

    Both direct from Denso.

might want to do a price check with densoproducts.. the same condenser is $71 on there. I remember shipping not being cheap but it might still be less than Amazon... not only that but you'll know you're getting a genuine part. I'm pretty weary of buying anything "genuine" on Amazon these days

Just now seeing this, but refrigerant is much lighter than the oil... so it's easy to get that sucked out.. but the oil will remain since it is much heavier. It's like when you open the valve, the refrigerant is under pressure and will want to escape the system. But the oil won't do that.

Yeah comparatively, it's way cheaper on Amazon. They want $60 for shipping! Fuck that haha, as long as I watch who it's actually come from it's usually the proper brand. The reviews are stating the same thing, Denso brand made in Japan.

Cond and Compressor for sure, already for the drier. was a $50 price difference between Amazon and that site.
